Second Trimester Summary

Pregnancy: Second Trimester

I cannot believe the second trimester is behind me! Honestly if someone had asked me how far along I was I would have said I was half way through but no, I am done! In fact, today I am 29 weeks – how has that happened? I know from experience that the third trimester flies by and so I know that in a very short while I will be writing my last update. I’ll probably write it a week or two before my due date, otherwise I will probably never get around to writing it!!

So how am I doing?

If the first trimester brought morning sickness, then the second trimester has brought reflux and heartburn. I don’t remember having reflux with the other two but it is just disgusting! To be honest, the only time I get it is when I have overeaten – makes sense really. It also seems to be when I eat after a certain time, or at least if I don’t leave enough time between eating and going to bed. That means that it is manageable, unlike heartburn which is just a pain!! I think that kicked in around 22 weeks and shows no signs of easing up.

Besides feeling like my throat is on fire I am actually feeling ok at the moment. This comes after weeks of being in agony though, with SPD starting to rear its ugly head. I have never suffered with any pains with my previous pregnancies so it has come as quite a shock. Thankfully I am part of an amazing network of mums, who have been able to give me advice on various changes I can make to ease the pain. If you are suffering or are beginning to show signs, then this post from Jaime over at The Oliver’s Madhouse has some great tips for managing SPD.

Something that has really helped me has been my Dreamgenii pillow. Just having that extra padding between my knees has eased the pressure on my pelvis and this has had a positive impact on my days. I have also been doing a little bit of exercise every other day (besides walking back and forth from school of course). By exercise, I don’t mean anything heavy as I would probably break but I have been doing gentle stretches using my FitBumpBox membership. Keeping myself mobile and flexible seems to be doing the trick and fingers crossed my SPD won’t get any worse.

How’s the baby prep coming along?

We are almost done!! Hurrah!! I have packed both my hospital bag and a bag for baby. We now know that we are having a boy and so have spent the last few weeks getting his room ready. It is so nice to be able to start all over again, to be able to buy brand new things. We got rid of most of the the girls’ baby things so we have had to get all the basics once again. The room is ready and I just need to take some photos so you can have a little look at what we’ve done. Nothing overly exciting as it is a box room, but it is a lovely calm theme – hopefully it will make for a calm baby!

Clothes-wise we are set, Mr F’s cousin gave us 3 bin bags full of clothes – enough to keep him going until he is about 2 years old! Everything is absolutely gorgeous too, he will be one smart baby! The only thing we don’t have is newborn bits and bobs, or enough anyway. The thing is, I don’t want to buy loads of newborn things and him come out as a 9 pounder! So, I think we will stick with what we have and should he be small, Mr F can make an emergency trip to the shops 🙂

28 weeks pregnant

So there isn’t long to go now and we are all getting really excited. LJ is the most excited I think, she has learned the phrase ‘baby pop out soon’ and says it all the time. She also kisses him goodnight every night and gives him plenty of cuddles in the day. I just hope that her enthusiasm continues once he arrives!

I feel like I am mentally ready, now that his room is ready and we have all of the bits and bobs we need. I won’t lie though, I am anxious to find out whether he will have allergies or not but there is nothing I can do about that. I will just have to wait and see and for now I will just enjoy the process. We have the whole summer to get through first, although I just know he will be here before we know it!

11 weeks to go…

Hi hon just to give you a bit of hope I didn’t have SPD with my 2 girls but did with our son. It had completely gone by the end of my 3rd trimester and eased as I went through the 3rd. Praying the same for you. You look gorgeous and I know this one has been a rough ride, but you look beautiful. Sammie xx

Oh I hope it eases off a bit then. I’d just be happy to see it go the day after the birth to be honest. xx
