Transforming A Dolls House

Transforming Our Dolls House

I have been so excited about writing this post, it is my entry into the Hillary’s Blinds Competition but it is also something I have been wanting to do for ages! The ideas was to use a 1 metre squared piece of fabric to make something crafty. I considered making something for my home but in the end decided I would use it to make a home for dolls, to spruce up our dolls house.

transforming dolls house We bought the house a while back and as much as it is great in its original state, I wanted to make it feel more homely. I got out my sewing kit and went to buy a few extra bits to be able to complete the job and we were good to go!

DSC_0457 DSC_0464It was so much fun measuring and sewing such tiny little cushions. Little G got involved too and stuffed each cushion carefully.

DSC_0466We laid carpets, we made cushions for the sofas and chairs, we made duvets and pillows and of course, we made blinds for the windows!!

dolls house collageDSC_0511 I made a little video, showing a day in our lives acted out by the dolls in the house. Enjoy!

At some point I would like to paint the outside of the house but for now I am pretty pleased with how it has turned out!

What would you have made for the house?

Love the way you’ve transformed the dolls’ house with the fabric. My old dolls’ house is in the loft needing some restoration before it is given to the girls and your post has given me some inspiration on what I need to do.

I adore dolls houses. I always wanted a wooden one when I was younger but we could never afford one. I was so excited when I found out I was having a girl (obviously she might prefer lego to dolls!). Hopefully one day we might have a dolls house to play with! 😀

This is so cute. It looks like you all had so much fun. xx

Making dolls house furniture and furnishings is so fun. I LOVE the blinds – they look great! My hubby painstakingly made a dolls house from scratch for our daughter a couple of Xmases ago. She barely looked at it for 5 minutes and then never played with it again. It’s ended up being one of my favourite toys! 😉

Oh wow, you’ve totally transformed it. I love the fabric you chose too. My daughter has a dolls house which my mum is eagerly waiting to give her for her christmas present… nothing like being organised! x

Oh this is fabulous lovely, really fabulous. I have a dream of making a little dolls house with the girls but I want to get a proper, big old fashioned one so I think we need more space first or perhaps they need to be a bit bigger. I love what you have done! x

This is fab, your kids are very lucky. I asked Finn what he wanted for his birthday this morning and he randomly said “a dolls house.” (I think they have got one in Nursery this week) I’m not sure I am quite up to making one like this though!
