A few months ago I realised I had fallen into a rut, into a same old same old routine and was on the verge of becoming a boring old fart! I am a mother of two, I should be living life to the full and enjoying every day right? So I made a promise to myself, to try new things and make the most out of every situation- to be a fun mum and create memories for my girls.
I am part of a very sporting family, not my side of the family I should add but I have married into an extremely competitive, sport mad clan. I am not at all sporty and quite honestly I hate anything to do with sports. However, I would never let my girls know this and I will always play the part, join in so they follow suit. I want them to have a go at anything and everything and so if it means pretending to love sport so they at least give it a go, then so be it.
Last weekend Mr F’s brother invited us all along to play Top Golf. It was his birthday so there was absolutely no getting out of it- I had to go and have fun! I have never used a golf club in my life – unless you count crazy golf that it… I suspect not…
If you have never played Top Golf, imagine a bowling game but with a golf club. You are in lanes and take your turn to swing at your golf ball. Instead of aiming at pins you are trying to get your ball into giant holes… easier said than done.
Don’t you just love Little G’s outfit? She is trendier than me these days! I love her dress and actually we were matchy matchy that day (a little bit on purpose). I want some brown boots too but cannot keep buying new shoes, Mr F may kill me!
I was a little worried how Little G would fare in the game, there was no way of cheating the system to allow her to win, so we just had to cross our fingers and hope. Thankfully she was just pleased to hit the ball at all and as long as we clapped her each time she was all smiles.
I, on the other hand, got a little stressed by the whole thing. It was hard!!! Golf does not seem a very natural sport to me, you have to be so wooden but still flow (or something or other….) and I was just awful! However I am no quitter so I persevered and asked for a little help from Mr F. He was only too keen to show me what to do and impart wisdom!
By game two, both Little G and I were in our stride. She managed to get 4 balls in and I got about 10 in – huge improvement from the zero we managed in the first game!
We still came last and got nowhere near the 101 score of my brother- in-law but it was actually really fun overall and I would definitely do it again. Just shows that putting myself outside of my comfort zone isn’t so bad and can lead to a great day out!
Have you been to Top Golf before?

I've never tried it but I am married to a golf lover and have been dragged around so many courses over the years I'm finally beginning to get it! I'd love a go at Top Golf. I love your matching outfits and Little G looks like she has a great golf stance there. Do link up with me for Country Kids, this is a lovely burst of outdoor fun.

I love the idea of trying something different with the kiddies. All too often we just go to the park, it's out failsafe activity. But you're right, it's totally time to try out some new things with them.
