A new year is seen by many as a chance to start a fresh, to welcome change and embrace a new way of thinking. Many like to make a new year resolution and one of the most popular resolutions is to lose weight and get fit. I know I make this resolution every Monday (and then find the biscuit tin….)
If you have read my hopes for 2015 you will know I am really wanting to lose weight and take better care of myself. I am now in my 30’s and I want to make the best out of myself- be a yummy mummy!
Hopefully my top tips will help inspire you to make 2015 the year that you become the best you!
To make sure you are successful in making changes you need to make a plan. You need to have in your mind what exactly it is you want to achieve. I want to lose weight and make more of an effort with my looks (wear makeup and dress nicely each day) and I am hoping that writing it down will help me to keep on track and hopefully they will help you to be the best you too!
Here are my top tips for reaching those goals:
Losing Weight & Getting Fit
- Keep a food diary- I have a tendency to lie to myself. I will wonder why I am gaining weight but will not put two and two together (eating a tub of icecream!!) to make the connection!
- Make everything from scratch! Jars of sauce are full of sugars and these can pile the calories on faster than you can blink! By making your own versions of sauces you can be sure you know exactly went into the recipe.
- Fill out a weekly meal plan- by writing down meal ideas for the week you will reduce the risk of eating takeaways and will also cut down on food waste! Buy what you know you are going to use and you should save money too!
- Get off the sofa! I know this sounds silly but keeping on your feet, getting involved with the kids will help burn those calories. Sitting on the sofa is lovely and comfy but save that for the evenings when you can relax and watch a movie!
- Walk as often as you can- If you can get out of the house once a day, go the long way round to the park, those calories will be burnt off! I have no option but to walk everywhere as Mr F takes the car to work but I find myself staying home which is no good for shifting those mince pies!
Taking Better Care of Yourself
- Get up 10 minutes earlier than normal, make that time to sit and put on some makeup. You won’t miss those 10 minutes sleep and you will feel so much better with a face on! If you want some tips on how to become a morning person take a look at Heledd’s fab post (Running in Lavender)
- If you are not a makeup person then at the very least you should cleanse, tone and moisturise every single day. Doing this will keep your skin looking healthier and younger. My mum has been doing this since she was 11 and has the skin of a 40 year old and she is quite a bit older than 40 I can tell you! I have been cleansing since I was 10 and people always tell me I have great skin! If you do not do it already you absolutely must start now! Now!!
- Make the time to have a relaxing bath. The kids will survive without you for an hour, go run yourself a nice bubble bath and pamper yourself. Once a week is a must!
- Lay out your clothes the night before- I am forever grabbing things in a mad rush and end up looking like I got dressed in the dark!! Better still, Katie (Pouting in heels) recently suggested putting outfits together on a hanger so all you need to do is pick a hanger!! Clever eh?
Do you think you could make those small changes? I am going to try and make the effort and hopefully 2015 will be the year I become the best I can possibly be. I want to look great but most importantly I want to feel great!
Have you got any top tips? I would love to hear them! xx

Love this! The great thing is, most of the points are really simple to do, but once we're in the habit of them they can make a huge difference to our wellbeing. One idea I have is to keep a kindness journal. At the front, it's got a list of things I enjoy doing, and I'm going to (try to remember) to fill in every day what I've done to be kind to myself that day. xxx #TheList

That is exactly it Leigh, small steps can become habits very easily! A kindness journal sounds a beautiful thing to keep! I hope you manage to be kind to yourself every single day Leigh xxx

New Year, new start! I love it and so true. The new year is like a new chapter and the perfect time to make some changes. Thank you so much for including my post on becoming a morning person. I think I need to start taking my own advice again. I also like your tip on making a food diary. My big thing for 2015 is to try and live more 'in the moment' and make the most of each day. You have such a great blog Katy, I always enjoy your posts, they're so well written, positive and thoughtful. xxx
