Gracie is getting to the age and size where we will have to think about converting her car seat, from a 5-point harness to a seat with the 3-point seatbelt threaded through. She is 5 and within the weight limit for her Evolva car seat (15 – 36 kg for stage 2) at 20kg, although still fits her 5-point harness at the moment.
It has been playing on my mind as she still falls asleep in the car when we go on long journeys, so the idea that she might lollop forwards when using a 3-point seatbelt leaves me feeling a little uneasy. I never want to feel as though she is at risk and so will be keeping her in her harness for as long as possible.
Thankfully there are people in this world who come up with brilliant ideas and the BeltUpp strap is one such invention! It attaches to the seatbelt to create an extra support to keep your child in an upright position as they were with a 5-point harness.
The belt buckle fits at the base of the seatbelt lap strap through a loop buckle, so easy to attach and doesn’t impact on the car seat fitting at all.
The shoulder strap attaches around the back of the car seat, to the top on the main seatbelt strap.
In seconds you have a criss-cross system that gives you peace of mind, knowing that they have an extra strap keeping them safe and secure.
We still have a good few months until Gracie will outgrow her harness but knowing that we have the BeltUpp strap waiting for her makes me less anxious about the switch.
Have you made the transition to a 3-point seatbelt yet?

Arlo is 6 and I'm keeping him in his 5 point harness until he reaches the height/weight limit, but it's good to know things like this exist as there's always the 'What to do in a hire car / taxi' situation.
