Making More of Your Garden Shed

Our garden is an extension of our house, with the girls playing outside each and every day from April to October. When we first moved in, the garden needed so much work doing as it was a hazard, with plastic flooring on the ground and dangerous materials scattered everywhere.

In the 2 years we have lived here we have transformed the space into a safe place for our girls to play. We now have grass with lovely raised beds and borders, the dangerous materials have been taken to the dump and everywhere is clean and tidy.

Something we want to do this summer is put our personal touch on the space. I have already bought a few nick nacks – wind chimes, a commercial outdoor planter or two, and toadstools for any visiting fairies. The main thing I want to do though is paint our shed, make a real feature of it!

I have been looking on Pinterest for ideas and feel so inspired to create a beautiful shed with a vintage feel. Take a look at some of my pins, some really cute sheds out there!

I have been having a look online and Homebase have a whole section for shed inspiration, I have collated a few things here to show you what sort of look I want to achieve.

1. BUNTING No vintage style shed is complete without some gorgeous bunting! I am going to run it along the length of the shed I think, it will look gorgeous!

2. WILDLIFE I love these little houses, there are three types; ladybird house, butterfly house and a bird house. I want to encourage as much wildlife into our garden as possible.

3. HANGING BASKETS I love flowers and in the last couple of years I have really enjoyed having hanging baskets at the front of our house. Pinterest has inspired me to have a hanging basket on the shed too!

4. LANTERNS I want to be able to use the space on summer evenings and it is always lovely to have candles burning. This lovely lantern would look really cute hanging from the peak of the shed roof.

5. DECORATIONS I think I am going to paint some flowers on the end of the shed and this butterfly decoration would really add to the picture, looking as if it is flying off to find some more flowers.

All that is left to decide now is the colour of the shed itself. Our fences are green so I may just try and blend in with them or maybe choose a colour especially for the project. Either way I am so excited to bring my new found love of decorating into the garden!
