Making Biscuits with the Oxo Cookie Press

We love to bake, Little G is always asking me to try various things that she sees on Cbeebies (thank you I Can Cook!) and loves to flick through different cookery books to find new recipes. So, when we were asked to try out the Oxo Cookie Press I knew she would love it!

The kit itself looks great, I like the fact that the discs have their own box- no excuse for me losing them all in a drawer now! There are 12 different discs in the set, each producing a different shaped biscuit. At first I couldn’t see how it would work but we soon got the idea!

It also comes with a few recipe ideas which was great, I didn’t want to risk using a different recipe that wouldn’t work with the press. However, now I have used it I know it would work fine- as long as you have a smooth consistency.

DSC_0918This is the recipe we used:

  • 340g butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 500g flour
  • 200g Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1tsp Vanilla essence

In future I would probably halve this recipe as it made enough biscuits for a small army!

DSC_0922Little G had great fun adding all of the ingredients! I always let her do all of it- including breaking eggs, how else will they learn? Once the mixture was ready it was time to get squeezing, she was especially excited about this as we have never used a cookie press before.

The press is very easy to use once you get the hang of it, it took us a while to work out that it takes 2 pumps on the lever to release the dough. I think ours was especially sticky so I would say to experiment with each mixture you make. My favourite disc was the teddy bear- how cute are these?

DSC_0932The biscuits are fairly small, perfect for little hands, and so only take 8-10 minutes to cook. Here are a selection of the different shapes we made. Aren’t they fab?

DSC_0947You can buy the Oxo Cookie Press from www.oxouk.com priced at £26

We were sent the Cookie press in return for this honest review. All words and thoughts are my own.

This looks fab, I've always stayed away from these kind of gadgets as they scare me but this looks so simple. I've started a new linky, this post would be perfect to link up if you want to pop over x
