Keeping Your Children Active Without TV is Challenging: Here is How to Handle It

Inside: How to keep your children active without TV. Collaborative post.

Even if you’re not a parent, you’ve likely heard about the issue of kids spending too much time watching TV. This can lead to all sorts of problems, from obesity to lack of sleep and social skills.

So how can you keep your kid active without relying on TV? Here are some tips.

Create a Game Box

There are a lot of ways to have fun with your kids without watching TV. One way is by creating a game box, where you can keep old board games that you no longer want and create new ones based on themes worldwide.

The game box is a great way to incorporate fun and to lean into your family’s day. It will be a lot easier when it comes time to clean up because you can just put the games back in their place!  If you’re worried about spending money on board games, there are also plenty of cheap ones at thrift stores, or you could have your kids make their own.

Encourage Outdoor Playing

Encourage your children to spend time outside. Playing outside is an excellent way for them to get some exercise, and it’s also fun! If you’ve space in your backyard or neighbourhood, try setting up a game such as soccer or tag with their friends. You can also research other ways of
keeping your kids active during lockdown through outdoor activities such as skateboarding.

If you live in an apartment building and your kids often get bored because of the lack of space to play outside, try setting up some fun outdoor activities indoors, such as hopscotch on the sidewalk or playing basketball against the wall.

Could You Give Them a Meaningful Task?

Another excellent way to get kids interested in something besides TV is by giving them an important task. This could be as simple as asking your child to look for their toys and putting it away or making sure they understand how a family pet gets along with other animals.

Allocating responsibility will show children the importance of what they’re doing and provide them with a sense of accomplishment.

Host a Playdate

Hosting a playdate has been an excellent solution for families looking to stay active. When one child is watching TV, the other gets restless and bored after about 20 minutes. This leads to more fighting, less time outside playing with friends, and a lack of creativity in their daily lives.

Hosting a playdate will give your children the opportunity to interact with their friends and get the exercise they need. Other benefits of hosting a playdate include less fighting, more creativity in daily life, and an increased physical activity level from both children participating. Try it out!

It is hard to keep children active these days without TV. However, there are many ways you can take on the task with some innovative and creative solutions. This will ensure that your family is healthy, happy, and physically fit!
