Now I am not going to pretend for one minute that I am fit, I am one of the least fit people I know in fact. However, I know that exercise is important during pregnancy, even small slow movements to keep you flexible. I haven’t bought one of those big pregnancy balls yet, must make that a priority in the next few weeks (if only so I can try and bounce him out towards the end!!) but what I have been doing are a few gentle movements to keep my body from seizing up – all thanks to the Fit Bump Box pregnancy pilates program.
I am really lazy and hate having to make the effort to leave the house to go to any classes, plus I have 2 children already so going anywhere is not that simple. So, when I was asked to try out the Fit Bump Box, I jumped at the chance – simple movements as shown by an expert, in the comfort of my own home? Yes please!
So the idea is that you sign up, they send you a little box with everything you need including a mini ball, a stretch band and a small cushion to put under your head or to kneel on. There is also a little chocolate and a sachet of caffeine-free tea. It is all parcelled up neatly and makes for a lovely gift, either to yourself or a friend.
Once you have your bits and bobs you can use your special code to make yourself an account on the Joanna Helcke website. Then you complete a quick survey to share a few details on your pregnancy and you are good to go. When I first signed up I was in full health but have since told them that I am suffering with SPD and now my program takes that into account – I like the idea that you can update information and keep it personal to you.
Each week you get an email, telling you that your next video has been unlocked. You go to your account to access the video and then it is up to you when and where you do it! Easy as that! Dr Joanna Helcke talks you through the whole session with easy to understand, clear to follow movements. I am glad they email you week on week rather than giving you access to everything at once as it is a handy reminder to do the sessions!
The best thing for me is the reminder to do my pelvic floor exercises. I am absolutely terrible at remembering to do them and this being my third baby makes me a bit anxious that I am going to be left with no strength down there at all if I don’t make the effort. I’m still not brilliant at doing them but the constant reminders are definitely helping!!
If you can’t get to a pilates class or just like the idea of having the flexibility to do it at home, then this is such a great option. Plus, who doesn’t love receiving happy post? The box alone was enough to sway me – I do love pretty things!
