Real Life Love Story: How We Met

Our Story – how we met…

I have been with Mr F for almost half my life now, quite honestly I don’t remember him not being there. I started this blog to document my life but it is equally important to remember the past. When I am old and forgetful I want to be able to look back at and read about all of the best bits!

With this in mind I am going to share our story. It is a long one so will come in parts. I will probably sob the whole way through as I am just a cry baby! So join me as I wander down memory lane!

love story

In the September of 2002 I packed up my belongings, waved goodbye to my family and went up to Bangor, North Wales to study Molecular Biology. Don’t ask me why I chose that subject, to this day I am still not quite sure.

On the day I moved into halls I met a girl called Sian, she was Welsh, fun and confident- everything I wanted to be (well, not the welsh bit obs, can’t just change my nationality ha!). She thought it would be a good idea to go around each corridor and introduce ourselves to everyone. Looking back it must have come across as so cocky but it was that idea which shaped my future.

Through introducing ourselves to everyone we found a group of lads (hate the word lads but they were not boys or men so lads is the only other word I can think of) who lived in the corridor above us. They seemed nice enough and so we spent the first night hanging around with them. Traditionally the 3rd years in halls take the 1st years on a pub crawl of the city, so off we all went.

Quite honestly I do not remember most of the evening. I do remember the Greek Taverna- drinking far too much Ouzo!! We spent the evening getting to know everyone a bit better, not that I was ever going to remember any of it!

The evening ended with a ‘formal’ back at halls. These were parties held in the common room -alcohol supplied by the Commonroom Committee, this mostly consisted of poisonous punch! I can remember being plied with lots of punch by a tall blonde guy and this is where it all went a bit hazy.

The next thing the fire alarm goes off (which became something of a tradition) and we all have to go out the front of the building. Fire brigade turn up and we are all told to go inside for a royal telling off. But where am I? Changing my clothes of course!! So I roll into the dining room, all changed and decide that the stage would be a good place to sit. Brilliant. After being escorted off the stage we were told to go to our rooms.

The last thing I can remember is lying in my bed, room spinning and Sian banging on the door shouting ‘are you in there Kate?’ I never answered for fear of being very, very unwell.

So, you ask- where is Mr F in this story? You may have guessed he was the tall blonde guy who very kindly plied me with that toxic punch! It took me a good 6 months to regain that memory and thank him for getting me so hideously drunk!!

But there we have it, the beginning of our story. We were in the same friendship group and living a corridor apart….

Come back soon to read the next post in the series … ‘but I love you!’

Oh Katy, I can’t wait to read the rest of your story. My best friend went to Bangor Uni but that was back in 1997, so before your time. Oddly enough my halls in Manchester sounds very similar to yours, with late night parties and fire alarms at ungodly hours. Fun though! ; )

Thanks for linking up to the very first #SundayStars

It’s funny because when I first saw the halls I hated them, I had wanted private flats with en suites! But I loved living there, a proper community spirit. x
