Simba’s Birthday

When I was little I had a cuddly Simba lion, he was my favourite toy and I took him everywhere. The other week I found him in my mum’s loft and as Little G is totally obsessed with The Lion King I passed him down to her – they have been inseparable ever since!

On Thursday Little G decided it was Simba’s birthday and she set about writing invitations to each of her friends for his birthday party. After a while she fetched her stool from the kitchen and stood at the window with her binoculars.

“Mummy why aren’t they here yet?”

Honestly my heart broke when I realised she truly believed she had invited them. I had to make excuses that maybe they were busy and maybe we could throw him a party another day. She wanted to invite her friends again but I managed to convince her to ‘make-do’ with family.

So, yesterday we threw Simba a birthday party. She was so excited and got her party dress on herself as soon as she woke up! We made him a birthday cake and she wrapped him a present. She had wanted to buy him a toy aeroplane from Argos that she had seen while browsing for Christmas presents but thankfully we had a toy plane that would do!

After she had ‘helped’ him unwrap his present it was time to bring out the cake! I have never heard her sing so loudly! Normally she gets a bit shy singing in public but she was on top form throughout ‘Happy Birthday’ and the look on her face made it all worth while.

They are small for such a short time and as much as we all felt a bit silly playing pass the parcel it was just nice to have family over and make a fuss of her (and Simba of course). She has taken a bit of a back seat these last few months having a new baby sister and so if throwing a birthday party for her favourite toy was what she wanted then I was more than happy to oblige.

Oh this is just absolutely adorable, it weirdly made me get a little teary because it is such a sweet thing for you to do for her- even making Simba a cake. I love their imagination and I love that you fulfilled that for her as well. So sweet, and exactly why I do this little project- it's an ordinary moment but truly lovely and something that will be lovely to remember when she is a bit bigger. xx

I was happy to have an excuse to make a cake to be honest as A, who doesn't love cake? But B I usually make pancake type cakes but after reaching out on FB I got some top tips and Simba's cake rose nicely!! x
