Style Guide: Being Bold With BHS

Anyone who knows me will tell you I only ever seem to wear black. If you were to look in my wardrobe you would find 98% of the contents to be black. I like black, black is safe. I am not entirely sure when it started, probably during my angry teen years, but I do tend to go for clothing that is dark. That or stripes – I definitely have a thing for stripes!

When BHS got in touch regarding their Celebrate Stylish Mums campaign I had a little look and decided to jump on board. I made a promise to myself a few months back that I would not be a frumpy mama, that I would embrace fashion once again and endeavour to make an effort each and every day. Being pregnant has meant that hasn’t always been the case but now that the nausea has gone I am back on track!

Their campaign focuses on 10 tips picked up from mothers – the idea being that mother always knows best (she does doesn’t she?!!). These tips range from making sure you never underestimate the power of an accessory to investing in a good mirror. The one that really stood out for me though was..

“Bright colourful dresses are beautiful”

Now if you had told me a few years ago that I would be wearing a bold colour such as blue I would have laughed. You see, bright colours to me signal attention and I don’t like being in the spotlight. I don’t mean being shy (although I am shy for the majority of the time) but I mean attention being drawn to my body. For the longest time I have hated my body, but since having children I have learned that my body is something to cherish, something that has given me two beautiful girls and is currently housing my third baby.

BHS Maternity dress

I can honestly say I love my body now and that is so empowering!

I chose the dress from their maternity section, they have quite a few dresses and plenty of the maternity basics you need too. When it arrived I was a little hesitant, I had never worn such a bold colour before – not as a dress anyway. But, when I put it on and looked at my big round belly in the mirror I just smiled to myself.

I am not going to be throwing out my black wardrobe any time soon as I really do love it but I can hand on heart say that I will be buying more bold colours from now on. Bright colours really are beautiful!

They are actually supplied by DP's so I guess they must be part of the same branding? Who knows! x
