Inside: Transform Your Living Room With These 7 Small Tricks. Collaborative post.
There are many ways to transform your living room without splurging on new living room furniture or a new TV. Below are just 7 small tricks that could help transform your living room.
Paint the walls a new colour
Repainting the walls is one of the most dramatic ways to change the look of a room. It can also be a fairly cheap way to transform the look of your living room. A painter/decorator is likely to charge around £300 to £600 for this job, but you can save money by doing it yourself – two cans of paint (what you need to paint the average room) could cost as little as £50.
Add some new houseplants
Houseplants can liven up any room. If your living room doesn’t have any houseplants, consider adding one or two. This could be a small windowsill plant or a large plant in a floor standing pot. Make sure that these are positioned close enough to the window.
If you’re looking for a low-maintenance houseplant option, start with a small succulent.
Hang up some new curtains
Some new curtains on your windows could also transform the look of the room. When choosing curtains, it’s important to consider the colour and texture scheme of the room. Some people change their curtains twice per year – this could include switching to some thick insulated curtains in winter and some thin breathable curtains in summer.
Throw some new cushions on the couch
A small way to transform your couch could be to buy some new couch cushions. These could be colour coordinated with some new curtains. Choose fluffy and plump cushions for the colder months, and light and silky cushions for the warmer months.
Lay down a new rug
You could also consider laying down a new rug. This could be coordinated with your cushions and curtains for a triple pop of colour. There are many different styles of rugs to choose from – consider whether it could be worth switching to something deeper or shorter pile for a change of texture.
Hang up some art
Adding artwork to a wall can provide a new fun focal point. The type of art you choose is up to you, however you may want to consider the type of energy you want to create in the room. Lively paintings are generally better for living rooms that are used as vibrant social spaces.
If you prefer to use your living room to relax, a more serene painting may be better suited.
Try new lampshades
Another small accessory that could be worth switching up is the lampshades in your living room. This could include any overhead light fittings as well as any tabletop lamps.
You can colour co-ordinate these with other aspects of the room such as cushions, curtains or rugs (although you may find that matching all four of them is too much).
