The Toys From My Childhood

I’ve mentioned before that my mum has kept everything from my childhood, I mean everything. She has kept all of my clothes up until I left home, all of my toys, books and everything in between. She has even kept every single birthday card I was ever sent- crazy but cute right? Now most of this is absolute junk and one day I will take great pleasure in throwing it all away, but in amongst all of the not so great stuff is some pretty awesome stuff!

When I was younger I thought she was mad for keeping it all but now I am really grateful as now my girls have some great toys to play with. What is really cool is that many of those toys are coming back into fashion and so Little G can say she already has some of the must have toys this Christmas, great huh? There are a few still up in the loft that I am planning on getting down this Christmas to give as presents- nothing better than recycling to save some money so I am very grateful for that!

One of the toys that are coming back into fashion are the Sooty characters. I absolutely adored Sooty as a child and wanted to live in his house! I always thought Sooty, Sue and Sweep’s bedroom was really amazing with the split levels and tunnels to the rest of the house- I wish they would show old episodes again, although I could probably find them on YouTube if I looked hard enough.

Sweep was always my favourite, his squeaks always made me chuckle and it seems they have the same effect on LJ. We were sent a new Super Sweep from Golden Bear and she loves him to bits. You press his hand and he makes the actual squeak noise as seen on tv. She finds it absolutely hysterical and each time she presses it she laughs and laughs. I love that she is getting pleasure from a character that I loved all those years ago.

Of course the toy manufacturers aren’t daft, they know our memories will be triggered when we see these toys and we will want our children to enjoy the same characters as we did as children. But you know what? I truly believe our generation had the best toys ever and bringing them back is a great idea. Now if they could only bring back Button Moon…..
