The Pendleton Somerby Deluxe Hybrid Bike - What Katy Said

The gift that keeps on giving, from Halfords

I’ve never had my own bike, not even as a child.

Well, I had hand-me-downs from my cousins, always boy bikes with the high frame. Always dented, always scuffed, never truly mine.

Until now.

I am now the very proud owner of the most beautiful bike on the planet

I have to say I haven’t always been a keen cyclist, probably due to hang-ups from my childhood, but after a few stays at Center Parcs I have come to really love the freedom that comes of whizzing along on a bike.

As an early Christmas present, I was invited down to Halfords to see their range of adult bikes and see if there was anything that took my fancy.

I had already taken a look on their website and knew exactly what I wanted – one of those old-fashioned bikes with a basket on the front.

Halfords have a gorgeous range of Pendleton hybrid bikes and they ticked all of my boxes. The step-through frame was what I’d always wanted as a little girl and the 8-speed gearing was perfect for getting up the hill to our house.

And did I mention it is beautiful?

If you caught my stories on IG at the time you’ll have seen me being shown how the gears work, having my seat adjusted for my height and me trying on a couple of helmets.

The lady that helped me was so nice and even helped get the bike into our car, which was no mean feat!

Just as we were leaving the store I spotted a basket – honestly, I was like a child in a sweet shop! So back the tills I went to get the finishing touch – who knew choosing a bike could be so much fun?

I finally got to go for my first ride at the weekend as the weather decided to play ball – and I loved it! You should have seen me, whizzing along with my basket on the front, thinking I was the bee’s knees. Pleased. as. punch.

We are very lucky to live on the outskirts of town and have the countryside right on our doorstep. Just a few minutes cycle-ride away is a lovely route that takes you across rolling hills and through some woodland.

Being a hybrid means I can go along various terrains, with great suspension and a comfy seat – perfect for family adventures at the weekend.

It has taken me until I am 34 1/2 but I finally have my very own bike and I just adore it. We also have a seat that Wills is going to go into and that will mean I can cycle into town and use my basket to get a few groceries – I cannot wait!

At the time of writing this, Halfords have got a Black Friday event going on and you can get some great deals! So if you are looking to get someone a Christmas present that will make their year why not get them a bike?

My children love cycling and Halfords have always been our go-to for their bikes. Click here to see what they have on offer and let me know how you get on!

Are you a cycling fan? What type of bike do you have?

I was gifted the bike & helmet but as always, all words and thoughts are my own.

Hi James, I just have the one that came with it. I don’t remember there being options I’m afraid!

    Hi Katy,
I love these bikes too and am looking to get one for myself. Do you know at all if it would fit a child’s seat on the back? I’d love to be able to go off with my 2yr old , I think he’d love it!
    Thanks so much!

The bracket bit at the back is plenty big enough to be able to fit a child seat I’d say but definitely worth chatting to Halfords and they would be able to advise.
