I must premise this post and say that I have not read a whole book in about a year now. I am shockingly bad at making time for myself and the things I love – one of those things being reading. I was recently chatting on Twitter about it and the lovely Jenny said that she takes a little time just before bed to read, that just making a half hour slot for something she loves has meant she has finally got back into reading. I really want to do this too, to make the time for me.
I have loved books since I was small and used to read so many every year that I have quite a collection gathering dust now! That’s the thing about books isn’t it – what do you do with them afterwards? I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to reading and I do love an actual book, but I also want to live a clutter free lifestyle. Having a bookcase filled to the brim with books that will never be read again is just a little sad. So, I am finally joining everyone else in the 21st century and am going to be reading on a Kindle from now on! Woo hoo!!
I’ve secretly wanted a Kindle for ages, I am such a geek when it comes to gadgets and things. I actually downloaded the Kindle app on my iPad but I found it too heavy still – might as well be holding a heavy book! So, when Amazon asked me if I would like to review the Kindle Paperwhite I jumped for joy!! A big yes from me!
I have had it for a couple of weeks now and I already love it. I actually feel a bit silly for putting it off for so long. It is so light and easy to hold that I have been able to read for that half an hour before bed each night and not get arm ache! The fact that I don’t have to have a bright light on to be able to see what I am reading is just great and I think I am going to get one for Mr F too as he loves to read.
Something I really like about it is the fact you can download samples of a book to ‘try before you buy’. I suppose it is a little like flicking through a magazine in a shop – except you won’t get frowned at by the shop staff! I have already tried a couple of books and decided they weren’t for me, so I didn’t spend unnecessary money.
I am currently reading You and Me Always by Jill Mansell, a no. 1 bestseller. It is a romance novel, my favourite kind, and I am loving it already. To be honest I am just loving reading again, I’ve missed it! The Kindle makes it easy to pick up where you left off and you can take it anywhere- I even took it to CBeebies Land at the weekend as I knew I wouldn’t be able to queue with the girls for every ride. With it being the Paperwhite you don’t get the glare from the sun so it is perfect for outdoors as well as at home. Basically, I love it!
I thought I would share 5 books that I am wanting to read over the summer and beyond. I will be up feeding baby in the coming months so will need something to keep my mind busy rather than spending the early hours on Twitter!!
1. Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
I am probably the only person who hasn’t read it, let alone watched the movie so this is top of my list!
2. After You – JoJo Moyes
The sequel to Me Before You is meant to be just as good and I love a series!
3. Flawed – Cecelia Ahern
Cecelia Ahern is my favourite author, I have laughed and cried through so many of her books. I didn’t enjoy her last one, The Marble Collector, but all of the others have been brilliant.
4. Letters To My Fanny – Cherry Healey
Not my usual taste in books but after hearing her speak at Britmums recently I fell in love with her. She is SO FUNNY!!! If the book is as funny as she is in person then I will love it!
5. The Secret Life Of Bees – Sue Monk Kidd
This one was recommended by a friend and sounds fab so I definitely want to try and read it.
Have you got any recommendations for me? I feel like I am already in the habit of reading a little bit each night before bed so will be able to carry on reading once I’ve finished this list! Oh and if you are a traditionalist like me and a little reluctant to buy a Kindle – do it! I am telling you, it is fab!!
