Share Your Wedding – Two Under Two

Hello! Welcome to Share Your Wedding, a weekly feature that gives you the chance to re-live your wedding day and may just give soon-to-be–weds some inspiration.

This week we have an invitation to Katie’s wedding. Katie blogs over at Two Under Two and can also be found on Twitter.

Hi Katie! Introduce us to your family.

Hi Im Katie and I’ve been married to my husband Robert since September last year. We have only been together since 2011 but have already achieved so much, we are obviously married, but we have also bought our first family home and have had two beautiful children together- a girl who is 2 and a half and a little boy who has recently turned one. I’d always dreamed of one day getting married and having a beautiful fairy tale wedding. Since we’ve been married we have gone from strength to strength and we are very much looking forward to a child free first wedding anniversary!

Let’s set the scene..

How did you meet?

We met in college. Rob had actually joined the course late and of the two classes running he was supposed to be in the one that I wasn’t in but due to a mistake and the other class being full he was put into the same class as me.

On his first day he came and sat right beside me.

I noticed him straight away but it was a good few weeks before we started talking more than just the hellos and goodbyes.

He asked me out on a date and the rest is history

How long have you known each other?

We met in September 2011

How did he propose?

It all started when we were watching an episode of friends. The one in which Phoebe refers to Rachel as Ross’ lobster, meaning they are meant for each other, they always find their way back to each other just as lobsters apparently do.  Well Rob and I refer to ourselves as the lobsters. Cheesy I know but I find it sweet.

One sunny day we went to a shop and whilst in there we noticed that they sold lobsters. All crammed together in a glass aquarium, poor things, destined for the cooking pot. Rob randomly blurts out “why don’t we buy one and set it free?” He said. “what are you mad? We can’t…..can we?!” I replied, and sure enough we did. The lobster was removed from the tank and placed into a clear plastic bag and locked inside by a cable tie. The panic started to set in then, it became real! OMG OMG OMG we have a live lobster! Where are we going to free it? How do we avoid its claws?!

We decided to go to a rocky beach I knew. By the time we arrived ‘Larry’ was safely tucked into a backpack on Robs back.”Eek I feel its claws stroking my back!!!” hahaha it was quite amusing. We got down to the beach and started looking for a place to free Larry. Rob then bravely cut off the tape around the lobsters claws, approached the sea then released Larry.

We turned and started packing up our things, then the next thing I knew Rob took me by the hands and got down on one knee and asked me those 4 special words, “will you marry me?”, “yes, yes, yes!” I exclaimed tears running down my face. It was just so romantic, spur of the moment, unexpected but it was perfect. I couldn’t wait to get home to tell everyone our news …. And of course to show off the bling ring.

How long were you engaged before you were married?

About a year

When did you get married?

September 7th 2014

How many guests, bridesmaids etc did you have?

We had 28 day guests and in the evening 70

Tell us about the Venue: Day / Evening

We chose to get married in Castell Coch just outside Cardiff. Rob loves his history and is especially fond of visiting castles. Castell Coch is known as a fairy tale castle because of it’s beautiful interior. I felt like such a princess arriving in my beautiful dress to marry my Prince Charming.

The evening do was held at our local rugby club where we had a buffet and DJ. My auntie and my cousin sang Christina Perri’s Thousand Years for our first wedding dance.

Did your wedding have a certain style?

I was aiming for vintage. Set in a magical castle with our little fairy bridesmaids running around the trees and enchanted forest it was beautiful.

My daughter wore a beautiful duck egg blue and lace dress as did my nieces who were bridesmaids.

Tell us about the most important thing, the Dress?

My dress was an absolute bargain! I had seen a wedding dress shop in my city were holding an end of season sale. I remember getting up early so that I could arrive as soon as the shop opened. I was the first one in and quickly ran around grabbing dresses I liked. I tried on about 4 or 5 but I kept going back to the same one. An ivory taffeta gown I paid just £50 for it! I had it altered to include a corset back and I had a hook attached underneath the skirt so that the train could be tied up.

Description of your Wedding, as brief or as descriptive as you’d like, flowers, clothes, food, speeches, gifts?

I decided to make my own bouquet, as we were on a budget but I also wanted something that I could keep and that I could pass down to my daughter on her wedding day. I chose white roses and gypsophillia just like my mum had had on her wedding day. As she sadly passed away 10 years ago I wanted to bring something of her on my wedding day so I had a bouquet charm made with her photo in which attached to my bouquet so that she could walk with me every step of the way down the aisle. My husband opted for a kilt as it was a wedding at a castle he didn’t want an ordinary suit, he looked so handsome. My little boy wore a little grey and silver suit with black jacket. The reception was held at my dads house where he had a marquee in the garden it was really beautiful.

Our cake topper was unique it was a sign that read “he’s her lobster” !

What was your favourite part of your Wedding?

My favourite part of my wedding day was at the end of the night. My husband and I slow dancing on our own after everybody had left. It was so romantic being able to have that first moment as husband and wife to ourselves.

What extra touches made it special for you both?

My dad and sister had secretly contacted a few of my friends including one who lives in Italy and they had put together a little video of them all congratulating us and wishing us luck.

Did anything not go as planned? Any funny stories?

Yes the music that I was supposed to walk down the aisle to wasn’t working so it ended up being played on my husbands mobile phone, it was lucky that he had the song on there. We had to walk out silently though with no music which was a shame.

Would you do anything differently with hindsight?

I wouldn’t change a thing, it was perfect.

What song did you walk into and what was your first dance song?

I walked down the aisle to Lone Stars ‘Amazed’ and our first dance was Christina Perris Thousand years.

Do you have any advice for the soon to be married?

Your wedding day will pass incredibly quickly, make the most of every moment! As it’s over before you know it.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

As we had two young babies, we decided not to go far so we had our first family holiday together in Tenby all four of us, it was lovely.

Oh Katie, from setting a lobster free to the charm on your bouquet you have had me in tears. You looked beautiful, what an absolutely perfect wedding!

Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us all!
