Hello! Welcome to Share Your Wedding, a weekly feature that gives you the chance to re-live your wedding day and may just give soon-to-be–weds some inspiration.
This week we have an invitation to Rachel’s wedding. Rachel blogs over at Life Of My Family And Me and can also be found on twitter so go say hi!
Hi Rachel! Introduce us to your family.
Hi, I am Rachel, my husband is called Daniel and we have two children. Miss C, aged 10 and Miss M aged 4. We are a happy family of 4.
Let’s set the scene..
How did you meet?
Daniel and I met when I was buying a rug for my Nan on a market stall.
How long have you known each other?
We have known each other for 15 years.
How did he propose?
It was my 33rd Birthday. He took me shopping for a birthday treat. When we got back he was unpacking a bag in front of me when he got down on one knee and said “what do you think? Do you want to get married”? then he produced a gorgeous single diamond engagement ring.
How long were you engaged before you were married?
We were engaged for 13 months before we got married. I had been waiting long enough lol!

When did you get married?
We got married on 16th August 2013.
How many guests, bridesmaids etc did you have?
We had 48 guests. Two Bridesmaids (my daughter’s) and my sister as my Maid of Honor and one best man.
Tell us about the Venue: Day / Evening
It rained the day before and the day after our wedding day. Our wedding day however was warm and the sun was shining! I could not have wished for a better day.
In the morning my sister, daughter’s and I arrived early at the hotel so we could decorate the tables. I wanted to keep an eye on what was going on behind the scenes. We got married in a beautiful looking Registry Office, it has large grounds at the back which was ideal for our photos to be taken. The evening was spent in a local hotel for our Wedding Breakfast and party.
Did your wedding have a certain style?
I aimed for a vintage theme. I had a vintage Rolls Royce as my wedding car. We had ivory and burgundy colours dress while the Groom and Best Man had burgundy ties. I wanted pretty, plain and simple.
Tell us about the most important thing, the Dress?
My dress was a simple laced wedding dress. I loved it! I don’t normally wear dresses so it took me months to find the right dress that I felt comfortable wearing. I found a lot of the wedding dresses I tried on were heavy, the one I had was lightweight and easy to move in.
Description of your Wedding, as brief or as descriptive as you’d like, flowers, clothes, food, speeches, gifts?
I had beautiful ivory and burgundy roses with a diamonté in each rose. Because my dress was ivory, my Maid of Honor wore a burgundy dress and both of my Bridesmaids wore ivory dresses with burgundy petals at the bottom of their dresses. We had parma ham and watermelon for starters, potatoes, chicken breast and vegetables for our main (a posher version of a roast dinner that I knew everyone would eat it) and profiteroles for pudding. The best man did a speech and so did Miss C. Obviously she out-shone the Best Man. Miss C got a standing ovation and nearly made me cry but I had to hold back the tears so I did not smudge my makeup!
What was your favourite part of your Wedding?
My favourite part? Erm, I don’t think so. I had the most amazing day. Possibly our first dance because I my daughters joined us. Our wedding day was the last piece of the puzzle. It made me feel complete.
What extra touches made it special for you both?
There was no extra special touches but I had my whole family in one room, I cannot remember the last time we were all together. That’s was very special for me.
Did anything not go as planned? Any funny stories?
Everything went to plan. It would not have gone as planned though had I not been in the hall in the morning decorating the tables. The company we had hired for the table clothes and chair covers brought the wrong colour chair covers. It was more of a two tone pinky red. My heart sunk when I saw them. The lady must have read my face because she asked if I was ok. I should her the burgundy petals which I was using and she said “oh, I need to go and change these chair covers”! Had I not been there, I can only imagine the awful colour scheme that we all would have walked into to.
Would you do anything differently with hindsight?
No. I can honestly say I would change a single thing.
What song did you walk into and what was your first dance song?
My first dance was to A thousand years by Christine Perri. I walked down the aisle to the Wedding March, here comes the bride.
Do you have any advice for the soon to be married?
Accept help if you need it. I only had a small wedding but I could not have done it without the hotel’s wedding planner, my sister and a few close friends. Start planning as soon as you can. I was very organised and I wrote everything down. I had tons of to-do lists that I would tick off once I had done them.
On your actual day just enjoy it. It all happens so fast that before you know it, your day is over. Oh and take lots of pictures. I had two photographers, one for me and one for my hubby. That way our whole morning was captured. Plus we then had one taking pictures of our guests while the other one concentrated on us during the day and evening. We have some beautiful memories captured in photos.
Where did you go on honeymoon?
We went to Marrakesh in Morocco. We found a lovely all inclusive adult only hotel. We went away for 4 nights and 5 days. As I was not taking my children, I did not want to be away from them for too long. As I was I was missing them by day two. We had a fantastic relaxing time. We ate lots of fresh food, there was a different buffet theme every evening from Italian, Moroccan to Indian etc. We drank alcohol far too early in the day whilst we were sunbathing by the pool but hey we were on our honeymoon with no children! When it hit 43 degrees though we did move into the shade of the trees. There were loads placed around the hotels extensive grounds. There was two pools as well, one was a quite pool where we could swim and relax in peace and one was where there was the bar and entertainment. It was great to have a choice. The staff were fab and we arrived to find red rose petals sprinkled all over our room and petals placed in the shape of a heart on the bed. We also has champagne on ice beside the bed. We only left the hotel once to join a tour of Marrakesh market and visit the souks which was an interesting experience.
Thank you so much Rachel, you almost have the same anniversary date as me! Love how you met buying a rug! That is crazy!
Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us all!
