Is it September yet? Oh no… only another 23 weeks left haha!! The first trimester was such a challenge and I am so glad that it is over now. When I had the bright idea to have another baby back in November I honestly had forgotten how exhausting the first few weeks can be. A few weeks in and it all came flooding back to me I can tell you – the nausea, the exhaustion but worse than all of that – the feeling that I am a terrible mother.
The only blessing this time around has been the fact that the girls have each other. When I was pregnant with LJ it was terrible, Little G had to fend for herself for 9 months while I mimicked a beached whale on the sofa. I am still mimicking a whale but they are such good friends I don’t feel so bad. I do wish that I had more energy though, it is so difficult trying to parent two children when you just want to curl up on the sofa and sleep all day, every day.
I am very lucky that I have not been sick at all so far (we won’t count the week of vomiting with Norovirus eh?). I did suffer terribly with nausea for weeks 4 to 15 though which was not pleasant- like a constant hangover except you haven’t had the big night out to make it all worth it! I have picked up a few tips for beating morning sickness over the three pregnancies though which helped massively and made it that bit more bearable.
I am currently 17 weeks, hence the title of the post, and so am well into the second trimester. I am no longer feeling sick every day, which is brilliant, but I am still exhausted. I don’t think I ever glowed with my other two pregnancies and I don’t imagine this one will be any different. Thankfully, the weeks seem to be whizzing by and it isn’t too long before we have the next scan- the gender reveal woo hoo!!
People have been asking whether I have any inkling as to whether it is a boy or girl. Quite honestly I have no idea whatsoever! I was convinced LJ was a boy – wrong there eh? So who knows what this little one will turn out to be. One thing that has been different this time has been the fact that baby was fast asleep through the 12 week scan. The sonographer did some pressing and prodding to get it to move the right way but baby was having none of it. The girls were proper little wrigglers so perhaps I am growing a little boy this time… time will tell!!
Whether it is a boy or girl they have certainly been making themselves known from early on, besides the fact my belly popped out almost instantly (and a few people guessed due to this fact!) there has been so much movement! I can remember feeling Little G move from about 18 weeks, LJ was earlier at around 15 weeks but honestly I felt those first flutters at around 13 weeks this time! Such a funny feeling, like being tickled from the inside out!
I have spent the last few months in full nesting mode, you may have read my KonMari post – if you are looking to transform your home it is amazing. As soon as I found out that we would be gaining another member of the family I knew that we would have to do some serious decluttering. The girls had so many toys, I couldn’t face adding to the pile with baby stuff- it all had to go! The only room left to do now is the baby’s room, I haven’t had the strength to do it yet but as soon as I know if it as boy or girl I am sure I will get the oomph I need.
We have a cot (currently made up as a cotbed) but besides that everything else was given away once LJ grew out of it all. We never thought we would have any more so didn’t think we would be needing it. I am glad though, half of it was unnecessary anyway so it will give me a chance to get quality things and create a lovely space. We never really made a ‘nursery’ before but knowing this is 100% our last baby I want to savour every moment of it all.
Well, 23 weeks to go…

Awwwww, honey, this is lovely. And you look totally glowing. I can't wait to hear your big gender reveal. I am hopeless at guessing. I thought a Little Miss was a boy and this bump a girl. Very wrong! I haven't finished KonMari yet but I need to get onto it. This house needs serious work before baby number two arrives. Hugs Lucy xxxx

What a lovely update - you look fab! What a gorgeous bump! Can't wait to read all your updates, and it's so lovely that your girls have each other - I felt pretty crap for the whole nine months when I was pregnant with Boo but I look back and it feels like it flew by - even though it didn't feel like it at the time!
