The girls have watched In The Night Garden since they were tiny and I would imagine Wills will love it as he gets older too. It has a strange power over them doesn’t it? A calm settles just before bed and I am sure there are plenty of parents who are grateful for the calming influence it has on their little ones every evening.
When we were offered the opportunity to go to see In The Night Garden Live the other week, I knew that I couldn’t turn it down. I knew Lils would enjoy seeing Upsie Daisy in real life and that Wills would be entranced, but wasn’t entirely sure that Gracie would enjoy it now that she is more into Power Rangers and My Little Pony. Oh how wrong I was!
We arrived and took our seats in the showdome. There isn’t fixed seating, so we were able to choose an area to sit to get the best view. We’d cut it fine getting there so we didn’t have long before the music started to play and the curtains went up.
I don’t want to spoil the show by telling you what happened, but I will tell you this – it was magical. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it was that made it brilliant, whether it was the sheer excitement on the faces of the children, or the joy on each and every parents face as they saw the twinkling in their little ones eyes. Whatever it was, it was the best 45 minutes we could have ever asked for.
The storyline was as cutesy as it always is on the tv and the characters were everything that a child could ask for. And who enjoyed it the most? My biggest girlie, soon to be 6 but still very much a baby. It made me realise that I often think of her as being all grown up, but actually she is still so young and seeing Iggle Piggle completely made her day!
