Me & Mine: January

Time normally flies by between these posts and I am always left wondering where the month has disappeared to. This month is different, this month has had at least 602 days in it – the longest month ever! I actually thought it must be February already, but no it is the January Me & Mine.

Normally we are a happy bunch but this month we have all been ill at one point or another with flu, chest infections, conjunctivitis and an incessant cough that just lingers on and on. I don’t actually think I have ever known a winter like it, we have never been so poorly for so long. I rarely get ill too, I am normally the glue that holds us all together but even I fell down and needed to rest. Whether I actually got any rest is another matter entirely but that is always the way isn’t it?

These photos were taken on Sunday, in a mad rush before we flew out the door to go to my mum’s house for lunch. Nobody was feeling it and when I looked at them I just felt a bit deflated. I always like to see happy smiley faces but this month’s set show the strain. You may not see it but I can. I actually almost didn’t use them, feeling like they weren’t good enough, but that is ridiculous. Good enough for who? They aren’t the best photos, definitely not ones for the wall, but they are us.

When I look at them again I see my husband, exhausted from being back at work this week after a whole week off ill (he never has time off work so that’s when you know it isn’t man flu). I see my biggest girl, with her long golden hair & awkward smile – she has her dad’s inability to smile. I see my littlest girl with hair in her eyes as always, she is my little ragamuffin. I see my boy, my blue eyed boy, the icing on my family shaped cake. My little family. I see me, the ever so tired me, the tired but totally smitten me. So this photo tells more than just the rushed job that it is, it tells the story of my love for them all.

That is all that is needed isn’t it?

I am so glad that January is over and that February is a short month. Spring is on its way and that means March will soon be here bringing my birthday and hopefully some sunshine to our lives. I want to be able to get out more, even if it is just in our garden as I am sick of the germs and being stuck indoors every day.

We have a few exciting trips planned for half term so hopefully I will be able to get some better photos of us all smiling next time!
