I have always been safety conscious, even before I became a parent. However, when I did become a mum my need for safety stepped up a gear. I am not one to wrap my children up in cotton wool, but when it comes to being safe and secure in the outside world I make sure to play by the rules. My main concern is car safety, I need to know that in the event of an accident they would be protected. My mum thinks I am over cautious – after all, when I was a baby she just laid me on the back seat. Loose on the back seat?!!! Can you even imagine?
Car seats have come a long way in the last 50 years, in fact even in the last 20 years as was shown when I helped my mum clear out her garage recently. We found my sister’s old carseat and my mum asked me if I would like it. I think the look on my face said it all. Thankfully standards have come a long way and this year Britax Römer are celebrating 50 years of history in the car industry.
I didn’t actually know, but in the 50’s Britax were the leaders in in-vehicle safety and were the major supplier for seat belts in the 60’s. I can remember seat belts being introduced for back seats – I think my dad had to install them himself! Crazy to think they weren’t always the norm!
With 2 little girls and a baby on the way, I need to know that all of their car safety needs are met. As you may know, I am a Britax Mumbassador and I couldn’t be prouder to fly the flag for them. We already have the girls in Britax car seats and we have a Britax Römer BABY-SAFE PLUS SHR II waiting in the wings ready for baby. Once he is here I will be showing it to you in more detail, but I already know that 50 years in the industry and being the leaders in car seat safety can only only mean one thing – it is the best!
I will be sharing more about the history behind Britax and Britax Römer over the next few months so do keep an eye out – you may even recognise some of their car seats from your childhood! Pop over to #Britax50th to see what else is being shared.
