As I write this it is starting to rain again, it’s 6.30am and everyone but me and Wills are asleep. We’ve been away for a few days as it has been half term and I for one couldn’t be happier to have escaped. This month has been dreary and my mood has been just as dismal. I definitely think I suffer from SAD, these grey months just leave me with a sense of doom that no amount of positivity can shift. I have one of those daylight alarm clocks and that does help but with Wills waking up every other hour I don’t think the clock has a chance to make an impact.
Wills has been absolutely dreadful in the sleep department recently and I actually think I discovered why. I barely eat anything as it is, as everything has dairy or soya in (or at least the yummy things do) so it wasn’t so hard to trace the probable culprit. I’ve been getting absolutely ravenous at around 9pm every night so I’ve been eating Walkers plain crisps. On the days when I’ve had a bag (or two…) before bed he has been dreadful. Last week I went through everything I’d been eating and that was the only real change. I cut them out and voila- improved sleep. Phew!
I say improved as actually he is still pretty rubbish but that’s just how it is for now. I am winding down the feeds and exchanging them for bottles now though as I just can’t carry on. I do feel guilty but I need to think of the bigger picture and that is that I have two other children, who need a mum who is more on the ball and happier than the wreck they are putting up with at the moment. They probably don’t mind and in the scheme of things they won’t remember these days but that doesn’t stop me feeling guilty, that is just a part of being a mum isn’t it?
Life is hectic at the moment, with pre-school and school and clubs and play dates. I say ‘at the moment’ but that is probably life for the next 10 years isn’t it? Monday’s and Tuesday’s are the worst as they are the pre-school days, which mean I have to do a 15 minute journey in a 10 minute window, racing up the hill from collecting Lils to do my best to get to Gracie on time. I’ve started picking Lils up 5 minutes early now just so we don’t have to run and so that Gracie isn’t always the last one at the door, poor lamb.
This week I have been so happy, being half term means I get my girls all to myself but we’ve also had the added bonus of having Mr F off too, meaning we can just do as we please for a few days with no timetables or schedules. We’ve had lie-ins (by that I mean we’ve had the kids in bed with us from the early hours and not got dressed) and I’ve been able to share the load and take a little more time for myself. I have been really enjoying taking the time to do my hair, my makeup and to put on outfits that make me feel good and it has had such a positive impact on my mood. If you don’t make the time then you really should, even if it is 5 minutes.
We are back home now and life is continuing as normal, washing to catch up on and work to get done. We’ve still got a few days together before the routines start up again but they aren’t going to be relaxed as we have a couple of parties to go to and I have a couple of vlogs to get filmed for a rather exciting project – can’t wait to share that with you! All I’ll say for now is it involves Wills sitting in his highchair – a place he is loving right now!
Right, I can hear movement upstairs so I best go see what the girls are up to. I will be back with another life update next month – this month has come around so quickly and next month I will be turning 33!! I can’t wait!!

I'm loving these life updates Katy, it's like having a chat with a friend! I know what you mean about SAD, I don't know if I have it or if it's just a mixture of things making me feel a bit low and short tempered but I do feel like a bit of sunshine and lighter mornings/evenings will do me the world of good. Don't feel guilty about anything (although I know we all do), you are a super mummy from where I'm standing! Xx
