School holidays are a stressful time for parents working out how they’ll spend their time with
their children. But there are ways you can maximise your time with your children – here are
some of the ways to keep your child entertained from this nursery in Somerset.
Go swimming
Children love water play and swimming, and it gives them the chance to practice skills
they’re taught at school. If they’re younger children you can also visit a water park if they
enjoy thrills as well!
Go on a bike ride
The great outdoors is one of life’s many gifts, and kids love to be on their bike. Go on a bike
ride together that stops at a restaurant, or pack up a picnic as a way of giving everyone a
reward after a long day.
Let them help you with the chores
Cleaning and tidying up the home isn’t everyone’s favourite activity, but it can be made more

to earn some pocket money or a trip to their favourite place after they’ve finished their

Take a visit to the library
Libraries are often underutilised and a whole world of imagination awaits for your child. Give

Bake a cake together
Using different ingredients and mixing them together is a great way to involve your kids in
baking. They’re able to test their fine motor skills, coordination skills and collaboration skills
with you – as well as enjoying the chance to be the first to take a slice of the finished product!
Organise a film night
With family or friends you can choose a series of films that can be watched across the day,
make popcorn and hot chocolates and bring a whole host of snacks. Add some sing-a-long ones in for good measure and make sure the adults get involved as well!
Visit a museum
Often reserved for rainy days, museum visits are a great way for children to test what they
might have learnt in school. There are many activities children can take part in that are hosted by the museum to test their comprehension, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
