Today is my birthday, the 3rd of the 3rd, I am 31 years old. So many people dread birthdays but I embrace them, getting older is a privilege. There are too many lives cut short but mine is still in full flow- I intend to make the best of it!
I can’t believe I am 31 actually, it doesn’t seem a minute that I was at school!! I don’t think I have changed that much (besides the wrinkles!) I think I was born to be in my 30’s- this is going to be my decade!
I finally feel like I am able to be me, comfortable in my own skin. As a teen I was bullied and had such low self esteem. I felt as though I would never meet anyone who would love me for me, it was the only thing that I cared about and it made me sad every day that I was such an ugly duckling. I wish I could go back and tell myself that it is all going to be ok, to enjoy being young and not to worry so much.
So with that in mind, here is a letter to my 16 year old self. I wish she could have been given it at the time.
Dear Katy,
Happy 16th birthday! Enjoy your party tonight, you have some wonderful friends who really care about you. They love you for you! Look after them, don’t let their friendship become a thing of the past. I know you will never see why people like you but just accept that they do and enjoy their company.
I know you have been feeling really down recently- he doesn’t matter, he will only make you feel bad about yourself and guess what? You are going to meet the most amazing boy in a couple of years! He is a blonde- I know, I couldn’t believe that either!! You will have your ups and downs but it all works out, you are going to be so happy Katy, please trust in that.
Please don’t hate your body, you are thin enough already. Please don’t do it to yourself anymore, there really is no point. Your body is going to be home to beautiful babies, you need to look after it. One day I promise you will feel happy when you look in the mirror, you will accept who you are and be proud of everything you have achieved. Don’t believe those people when they put you down, I don’t know what their problem is but it is nothing to do with you.
You are always comparing yourself to others, stop it right now! You are your own person and you need to focus on what you have and what you can offer. Comparisons will only make you miserable, such a waste of time! It will probably take you a while to believe me on this one but it is true.
You are beautiful, smile every day and laugh often. Be the best friend you can be and always be thankful for what you have.
Lots of love
Me xxx
P.s. One more thing, set up a blog right now! Trust me, when you have 20’000 Twitter followers by 2015 you will thank me!!
If you could write a letter to your younger self, what would you say?

I had to laugh at the "set up a blog".
I love my birthdays. LOVE them. I don't focus too much on the number but rather the fact it is the one day I get to celebrate ME :))
Happy happy day xx
