Springtime is such an exciting time, I am always desperate to get out in the garden and breathe some life into the bare beds. Over the past few weeks we have been adding to the garden bit by bit, buying plants from our local market. This is the first year we have had borders by our fence and so we are starting from scratch!
I love having colour in the garden, it is so nice to look out and see happy flowers waving in the breeze. Something we have been lacking in this garden though is some fruit and veg. In our old house we had a whole vegetable patch at the back but it isn’t possible in this garden. However, not wanting to do without we have decided to give strawberry planters a go. We chose the Strawberry Planter Kit from Suttons as the planters look cute with the strawberries around the top and I thought they would be easier to carry than pots! They will sit neatly on our patio and hopefully keep us in strawberries over the summer!
The first job was to get some gravel from the back of the garden to go in the base of the bags for drainage. Little L took great pleasure in filling up her wheel barrow bringing us what we needed, she is always such a busy bee.
Both girls had great fun filling up the planters with compost, most of it ended up on the decking of course but that is half the fun isn’t it?
We separated the strawberry plants and gave them a water before putting them into the planters. I don’t know that I have ever seen strawberry plants before, you just get them from the supermarket and neglect to think where they have come from. I am really excited to see them grow!
Another watering in and they were happy in their new home. They need to be brought inside every night until the risk of frost has passed but that should only be a couple more weeks.
Keep an eye out for updates on Instagram, hopefully in a month or so I will have a full crop!

I hope they grew! I love strawberries but all our attempts to grow them never get very many. The kids find it fun though so that's always good.

Such a great idea, we had a strawberry patch in our previous home and it was lovely to eat the ones we had grown rather than from the shops X

Aw this is a lovely idea, I keep meaning to do something like this with Mads as she has suddenly become really interested in where food comes from. And who doesn't love a strawberry? :)

It is a great idea if they don't like something too as it makes them want to eat it anyway! x

The planter looks lovely. Like you we can't have a veg patch and wish we could. Girls had such a good time with the Handy Herbs kit - going to look into getting this too. #PointShoot
