I will say right now, I am no plane expert or even a plane enthusiast but after a fantastic day at the IWM Duxford on Saturday I would definitely recommend it to anyone and go again myself. The show we went to was the American Air Show, which was all in aid of celebrating the reopening of the American Air Museum. I came away feeling quite emotional actually as at times you just felt so completely caught up in the displays and it made you remember that these planes made journeys through wartimes and the men that flew them fought for their country and ours.
We started off the day by being allowed to go along the flight line, getting to see some of the aircraft up close.
I have so many gorgeous photos, I could have added each one to this post but you’d be here forever scrolling down!
Once I had taken approximately 1000 photos it was time to explore the rest of the event. There were so many stalls and mini events going on. One of our favourite things was sitting down and listening to the Bluebird Belles – you felt like you were right there, transported back in time.
There were lots of people dressed up in gorgeous outfits, so lovely to see people getting involved and making an effort for the occasion.
We spent time in each of the museums, each with a different focus. The American Air Museum was very impressive with the various aircraft but also the displays, showing uniforms and other memorabilia.
Of course no day out would be complete without a souvenir or two! Loving my new T-shirt from the IWM Duxford shop– the fact I got it over my bump made my day!!
Mr F got this enamel mug to add to his camping equipment – I would imagine it will add to his enthusiasm for taking us all camping this summer!
The actual air show started at 1.30pm and so after a picnic lunch by the children’s play area we settled ourselves along the fence to watch the display. I cannot tell you how excited the girls were- they absolutely love planes, so it was their idea of heaven!
The show was so impressive and finished off with a very noisy display from a Eurofighter Typhoon. The girls LOVED it!!
I did vlog about our whole weekend if you want to see but here are the highlights from the show itself!
We had such a great day, trying out something completely new to us – we would definitely go back again!

Sounds great - my son would have loved this. They have an airshow here in San Francisco every year too and he loves going. We get to see the American equivalent of the Red Arrows - the Blue Angels! An appropriately timed post too, as we've just had Memorial Day here in the states. You are right it's incredible to think about the pasts that some of these airplanes have had. x

I live a couple of villages away from Duxford and I can't believe I've never been to visit the air museum. I do get to see lots of the planes flying over our house on show days.

My husband reeled off the names of these planes and noticed in the yt vt that the music was changed to The Band of Brothers. I myself though am clueless and think I'd prefer dressing up.
