Skin loses moisture throughout the day and the weather we are having now will be causing our skin to dry out quicker than normal. Nobody wants to have dry flaky skin and so it is critical to moisturise daily to keep the skin looking and feeling healthy.
Moisturisers work in two ways, they help the skin to absorb moisture from the surroundings and they help to smooth the skin’s surface. No matter your skin type, you should always moisturise daily to help regulate the look and feel of your skin.
By creating good habits and getting into a skincare routine, you can help slow down the ageing process- reducing the likelihood of wrinkles before you are ready for them!
Here are 5 steps to ensuring your skin is protected and has a healthy glow:
1. EXFOLIATE It is so important to use a loofah or body scrub to slough off old skin. Doing so will uncover new cells, helping your skin to look fresh. Exfoliating will also help prepare the cells for your moisturiser.
2. MOISTURISE While the skin is still slightly damp apply some moisturiser, preferably one with natural ingredients. By putting it on wet skin, you will help the skin to absorb the moisture.
I have been using Peini Shea Butter Body Conditioner and I love it, it is made in Ghana, using indigenous ingredients. It is said to have healing properties and I have to say I am loving the effect on my skin!
3. SPF When do you wear suncream? When you are on the beach? Or everyday? I hope it is the latter as your skin is exposed to the sun every single day and that means UV rays are slowly damaging your skin. By applying SPF to exposed skin daily will help protect your skin. Try and find a foundation with built in SPF to help reduce the steps in your daily routine.
4. EXERCISE You may not think it but exercise is good for your skin. It boosts blood circulation, which in turn boosts oxygen and nutrients sent to the skin’s cells. Another reason to start on Monday! 🙂
5. DIET No, no I don’t mean go on a diet. I mean the choice of foods you eat. Choosing foods rich in vitamin A and omega-6 fats will help the skin generate healthy cells. Increasing your water intake will also have a fantastic effect on the skin!
So there we have it, my 5 steps for making sure your skin is protected. I want to look after my skin as best I can so I still look fantastic when I am in my 80’s! I met a woman today who told me she was 70 – she didn’t look a day over 50 and I want that to be me in years to come!
Is there anything you swear by?
I was sent samples of Peini to try but all words and thoughts are my own.
