We have always enjoyed growing our own food, having a dabble with various fruit and veg over the years. In our old garden there was room for a little plot at the back and we grew quite a range, some successfully and some not so, haha! However, our current garden has an enormous sunken trampoline, so there just isn’t the room for a dedicated space. That hasn’t stopped us though, last year we grew strawberries and they are starting to grow again this year – much to the girls’ delight!
Heinz invited us to grow our own tomatoes this year and as we love to have them in a salad we took up the challenge. I have never grown tomatoes before, as our next door neighbour used to hand us ready grown plants each year – taking the hard bit out of the equation! So this year we are starting from scratch and I am keeping everything crossed that they grow!!
They sent us seed packets and some fancy Heinz gloves but the best thing to arrive was a miniature garden with teeny tiny tools. Both my girls believe in fairies and so we planted it all up and told the fairies they were welcome to take care of it for us.
Hopefully the fairies will have a magic touch as if we do in fact manage to grow our own tomatoes we can be in with a chance of winning a fab prize – to get our tomatoes turned into Heinz tomato ketchup!! Both the girls love ‘red dip dip’ so to have grown their own would make their day!
There is more info on their FB page if you want to take part – the winners are chosen at the end of August. If the weather carries on the way it has been, we could all be growing massive tomatoes!! Good luck!
