My girls love to read and as a teacher it makes me so so happy. Reading is the foundation for all learning and so I have always made sure that they have a great selection of books to choose from on their bookshelf. It actually makes me really sad that not all children have access to books, I once had a child ask me what a bedtime story was – can you believe that? So so sad.
We read all the time, did you know that for children aged 4-5 you should aim to read around 6 books a day? We do have our favourites and there are some days when we will read the same book more than once – the books I am going to share with you today have very quickly become such books!
You may have seen the amazing books from Lost My Name, their personalised books for boys and girls are so much fun. I chose the girl version (The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name) for LJ and although she didn’t quite understand that it was all about her, she loved looking at the pictures.
The idea is simple- the main character (your child) has lost their name and so they go on a journey around the world, meeting various characters, finding the letters of their name. At the end of the book their name is spelled out for them to see and I just know that when she is old enough she will love this feature!
What you may not have seen is that they have a new book out, The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home. I chose this one for Little G as she is totally obsessed with space right now.
I really love this book and Little G’s face was a picture as she noticed her name in print. The book arrived at the perfect time too as Little G had been off school with Norovirus. We snuggled on the sofa and really got engrossed in the story of G and her mission to find her way back home.
The thing I really like about this book is the fact that you can input your postcode during the ordering process and it will bring up a satellite view of your area. You can see in the photo above we are looking at a birds-eye view of our neighbourhood and I can tell you now, she was beyond excited to point out our house!
If you are looking for a fun book to add to your library then I can really recommend these. They are great stories anyway but the added element of having your child as the main character just adds a little extra magic!
