Sometimes you get to the end of the day and you just do not fancy cooking dinner and the idea of another takeaway makes you feel a bit queasy. What you need is for someone else to cook and serve your food and take care of all the washing up too – so you head out. But where? One of our favourite places to go is Harvester as the kids love the salad bar!
I have probably been to this particular Harvester every week for the last month and so when I was asked along to review it I knew I was going to have a great meal. Sometimes you wonder whether you get special treatment when staff know you are reviewing but I can tell you I am always greeted by smiles and have the best service from beginning to end.
While the girls busied themselves with their kids packs, Mr F and I ordered our starters and mains. The packs are great and currently come with a little packet of seeds which I think is great!
I chose some nachos and I’d love to say I shared but no, I scoffed the lot!
Mr F had the spicy crackerjack prawns with a pineapple & habanero ketchup, which looked delicious!
For my main, I had the BBQ pulled pork beef burger and oh my word it was amazing. I am a huge pulled pork fan and if it is ever on the menu it is the first thing I head for. Sometimes you won’t get a burger as well as the pulled pork but not here – no no you got a lovely juicy burger and a massive helping of pork too!
Mr F loves a steak and so tried out their 10oz sirloin. He always asks for medium rare and is a bit fussy when it comes to how well it is cooked. He really enjoyed this and said it was exactly the right amount of rare that he would have done if cooking for himself. Win!
The girls went for their favourites – chicken strips for Gracie and a sausage whirl for Lils. Honestly that girl will turn into a sausage one day! I like that you can either choose from smaller bites (for younger kids) or bigger appetites for when they are that little bit older. They also have Heinz baby jars available for babies – although my one criticism would be that they only have those that contain dairy. It would be nice if they had a non-dairy option available.
Now a meal out would not be a meal out if you didn’t have dessert would it? The girls both had the ‘build your own sundae’ which was devoured within a few minutes!
I had the Rocky Horror sundae, which had warm chocolate fudge brownie topped with chocolate fudge pieces and a cherry. The ice cream did melt quite quickly with the warm brownie but it was amazing nonetheless!! The whole meal was delicious and we all had a great time being out together. The staff were friendly as ever and they were great with the kids which is always a positive for me.
Harvester have been training up their staff with the help of comedian Rhys James, teaching them how to start conversations to get families talking again. It is really needed too, as I looked around the restaurant at other families so many were staring at their phones and one table had 2 out of the 3 people with headphones in! Why go out for a sociable event to sit and ignore each other? So keep an eye out in your nearest restaurant to see if they serve you any rib-ticklers!
