As part of my mid-year resolutions I have vowed to let my hair down more and have fun! I am fed up of being the strict one, with Mr F being the fun, cool parent! I am naturally the disciplinarian out of the two of us- it is in my blood as a teacher, however I need to relax a little and enjoy my girls while they are young. We had a really relaxed weekend, pottering around the house, playing in the garden and on Sunday we went to our local park for something a bit different- acrobatics!
Now you are probably imagining us to be going along to watch others, a bit like a circus right? Wrong!! It was us doing the gymnastics under a tree while onlookers watched open mouthed. Ordinarily this would have been done in hiding but life is too short to care about others and I wanted to do it under a tree in an open space! We were sent a really fun book, Jack’s Acrobatics, in which the character Jack performs different moves with his family. The book is written by two women who teach circus skills to children and they thought it would be fun to make a book and they were right- we laughed so much!
The book is really well illustrated and you can see exactly what you are meant to do with your body and your child’s. Each move is given a fun name and description which makes it more fun and relatable for the child.
The Wheelbarrow- Little G has no upper body strength at all and so this caused a problem and much laughter straight away!
Somersault- This took possibly 20 attempts before she could balance on my legs, a proper workout for me standing like that I can tell you!
The Pony Pyramid- This takes so much trust and balance, I was so nervous she would fall but I stayed as still as i could and she did it!
The Flag- We were so proud of ourselves with this one! Haha look at my face!
The Bunk Bed – I really enjoyed this one! Little L was beginning to wonder when it would ever be her turn!
Look how pleased she is with herself!
We had such a lovely time and for once it was me doing the fun activity and Mr F behind the camera! The whole books is such a great concept and there are plenty more moves we have yet to try! If you are looking for something fun to do, something a little bit different then you definitely need to give it a try!
Are you the fun parent?
If you want to win your own copy of Jack’s Acrobatics then complete the Rafflecopter below! Good luck!
We were sent the book to review but as always all thoughts and words are my own.
