Our Living room #projectspruce

At the end of last year I decided to make my house a home by adding in a few personal touches here and there. Some of you may remember I referred to it as #projectspruce! Well, over the past couple of months (in between doing 101 other jobs) we have been working on a few rooms in our home.

I am going to show you room by room as we finish them- the first in the mini series being this one, our living room.

We decorated this room first when we moved in 2 years ago, it had black wallpaper (yes black!) along one wall and so we quickly stripped it all and painted everywhere magnolia. We treated ourselves to a new sofa and a matching table and sideboard. I thought I was happy with how it looked but 2 years on I was feeling as though I was in a showroom rather than a home.

I had seen picture walls on Pinterest and had always dreamed of making my own! I take so many photos, why not have them on my wall to enjoy every single day? I chose the photos I liked, converting them all to sepia as to match with our neutral theme and had them printed out.

I managed to get some lovely frames from Asda, all in a light oak to match our furniture. I absolutely love how it has turned out! I even made my own scrabble art using our names and words like ‘family’- really chuffed with it!

Next on the agenda was making the sofa look more inviting. We bought a lovely corner sofa in one of the DFS sales (haha!) and it came with matching cushions. I had never really given it much thought but actually the cushions were pretty hideous! I decided I wanted to add some texture so I chose a selection of cushions from Dunelm Mill- fluffy, silky and bobbly. I am really pleased with them and now I feel snuggly when I get chance to sit to watch the tv.

Our dining room is in an extended area of our living room and so I wanted to give that a face lift too. The furniture we bought from Oak Furniture Village was gorgeous on its own but I wanted to add a focal point to the table. I bought a fish bowl type vase from Dunelm Mill and every season I am going to fill it with different potpourri. Over Christmas it had pine cones and red bits and bobs and now for the rest of winter it has white sparkly potpourri. I love it!
