Taking Myself Seriously as a Blogger

This time 9 months ago I had never really heard about blogging. I knew that people ‘did blogs’ but didn’t have the faintest idea what was involved or that a wonderful community was out there! The last few days I have been taking a look back at my earliest posts- they were truly dreadful I can tell you!! However, the enthusiasm was there and is still going strong today.

In the past few months I have found my voice, I know where I want to go with my blog. I started so that I could help other people and I know now that this is where I am heading. My HappyDays linky, co hosted by the lovely Jenna, is one of my favourite posts to write but also I thoroughly enjoy reading about everyone’s weeks. We have received such lovely comments from the wonderful ladies that join in each week, such inspirational mothers sharing their happy moments with us!

This month sees the first in my new Real Mums post go live (keep an eye out for that). Too often we think that others have a better life than us but we all need to realise that we are lucky to have our own lives and the grass is not always greener. Hopefully Real Mums will lift those rose tinted glasses and show that we are all fundamentally the same and need to celebrate each other rather than making comparisons.

Something I am really looking forward to is Britmums Live 2015. I started my blog a few weeks before last year’s event and my Twitter feed was full of Britmums talk for weeks! As soon as the earlybird tickets went on sale I booked my place- I want to be a part of it! I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Blogfest in November and if it is anything like the fun I had there then it is going to be amazing!!

Something I noticed is that it is very hard to place faces to names – people you speak to every day but do not recognise when you get the chance to see them face to face! So when Simoney BadgesΒ asked if I would like to have a personalised name badge I jumped at the chance!!! People will not have to struggle to see my name badge provided by the venue or wonder who I am.

How cool is the badge? I want to wear it every day just so people can see I own a blog! A few months agoΒ I was quite shy about the fact I am a blogger, but no more. I will be wearing it with pride at Britmums later this year so keep an eye out for me if you are going. Don’t get me wrong, I will still be nervous as that is who I am but I will not be as shy as I used to be, I am Katy and I am a blogger!

I am proud of everything I have achieved so far and I would recommend starting a blog to anyone (I often do actually). I’m so excited for 2015, if it is anything like 2014 then it is going to be a blast!

I was sent my own personalised badge in return for the inclusion in a post. All thoughts and comments are my own.

  1. That is weirdly cool, Katy. I want a badge too! There’s something about seeing your brand looking official that is exciting, isn’t there? I’m sure you’ll have a smashing time at Britmums, and that lovely badge will definitely be an icebreaker.

  2. Congrats on a fabulous blog so far! It’s so lovely to hear that you’re still enjoying it so much and you’re still fulfilling your original goal of helping people πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

PS I LOVE your name badge and I too would want to wear it every day!!

    Mim πŸ™‚

  3. I’m a bit like you, I only started out in June last year and when I look back at my early posts they are a bit pants but I think I have definitely improved as time has gone on and I agree that I too have an idea of where I want my blog to go. I was also a bit embarrassed about blogging and it took me a lot of courage to tell people about my blog. Once it was out there though, there’s been no stopping me. So just like you, I’m Lisa and I’m a blogger (also full time worker, mummy, cleaner, taxi driver etc etc!!). Great post πŸ™‚

  4. You should definitely be taking your self seriously as a blogger – what a great year you’ve had – so much more proactive than I was in my first year, now is a great time to be starting I think!

As for Britmums and your badge, can’t wait to see you in it and finally meet!! #BrilliantBlogs xxx

    1. I actually want to scream that we are going to meet!!! So exciting!! Apologies in advance if I cry haha although I managed to hold myself together when I met Aby at Blogfest lol xx

  5. Just wonderful lady, hope to meet you if I attend. Well done on everything you’ve achieved, blogging absolutely rocks as do you. Thanks for linking up to #brilliantblogposts x

    1. I do love a bit of baby pink! Oh definitely come say hi at Britmums, I will be the loud mouth pretending I am ok when really I will be nervous as hell! Lol xx

  6. Hi πŸ™‚ I was at BritMums last year and I had a T-shirt that had ‘Glasgow Mummy’ across the front so that everyone would know who I was πŸ™‚ Not got a ticket for this year as yet, but hopefully will be there. Sarah x

  7. Ohh Real Mums sounds interesting! I would love to be going to Britmums this year but maybe next year πŸ™‚ Love the badge too!! xxx

  8. What a lovely post and I thought you’ve been blogging for ages! You seem a natural πŸ™‚ I am going to Britmums Live too next year, quite exciting! I enjoyed Blogfest, even if I did feel a bit lonely, but I did learn a lot so it was useful in that sense. Might bump into you somewhere at Britmums then πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you hun, that is lovely of you to say! Oh please come and find me at Britmums- no need to feel lonely. I will be super nervous although I put on a brave face. xx

  9. I love your badge and that you are proud of who you are as a blogger and not afraid of telling the world about it! Might just steal your idea and get myself one too πŸ˜‰ #PoCoLo

  10. You are doing such a wonderful job Katy – and this is a lovely post. Great badge – I shall make sure to look out for you at BritMums and will certainly make sure we have a proper chat – as I intend to do with most people this year. Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo πŸ™‚ x

  11. Lovely post and I’m so thrilled you love blogging! Gosh it’s just bloody brilliant isn’t it?! πŸ™‚

Loving the sound of your Real Mum feature – will keep my eyes out for that – and hopefully will get to say hello at Brit Mums later in the year.

Keep up the wonderful work xxx

  12. I started out just like you, not really getting blogging and the world that goes with it. It’s awesome though isn’t it, and the opportunities it creates are amazing. I love your badge and I’ll be looking out for it at BritMums zx

  13. Fab badge Katy! Like most things, blogging is a learn as you go experience and I, certainly, still haven’t got the foggiest what I am doing half the time but just keep writing and sharing! Look forward to meeting you at Britmums!! Elizabeth #pocolo

    1. That’s it, just keep writing and suddenly you will ‘know’. It is fun whether you know what you are doing or not though isn’t it? Definitely say yhi at Britmums! x

  14. OMG that badge is AMAZING! I want one! Four years later and I still get shy telling people about my blog. But I have assigned 2015 as the year to make things change with by blog. The badge will make thing a little easier at events like Britmums

  15. Wow, you were at blogfest! I was there too; with my little one and a dream to become a blogger sometime.

I was just talking to someone at work about outing myself as a blogger and we both laughed about it.

Anyway, congratulations on how far you’ve come; to more exciting times ahead. If I make it to BritMums, I’ll look out for you πŸ™‚ #aNoviceMumTwitterFeed
