Have you considered reusable wipes?

I have been using reusable nappies for 9 months now and love it. (Read why I love cloth nappies here). I had considered reusable wipes before but decided I was fine with cheap packets from the supermarket. However, I am now a total convert and will share with you why!

cheeky wipes

This year’s Real Nappy Week (2014) I went along to a nappy meet, put on by our local Cloth Bum Mums group. They had arranged for a lady to come along and talk about nappies and accessories. I had a look at the Cheeky Wipes she had on her table and she told me how much money you waste on disposables – £250+!! She also explained how easy they were to use and so I took the plunge and ordered some!

I ordered:

2x ‘Fresh boxes’, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
25x rainbow microfibre wipes
10x white cotton wipes
1x Freshwipes out and about bag

You can also buy ‘mucky’ versions of the boxes and bags but as I already use cloth nappies I will use my nappy bucket and nappy wetbag for dirty wipes.

So what do you do?

Fill up the box with 2cm of water, add essential oils of your choice (i use teatree) and pop the clean wipes in. Turn them over a couple times to make sure the liquid is absorbed and you are ready to go.

That is it, no fuss at all.

Use the microfibre for hands and face as they are nice and soft of the skin. Use the cotton wipes for pooey nappies as the loops of cotton help ‘grab’ the poo. Once you have finished pop the dirty wipes in your nappy bucket (or straight into the normal wash for the hands/face wipes)

Once they have been washed you don’t even need to dry them, just place them back into the box ready to be used again. How easy is that?

If you are going out you take a few damp wipes and pop them in the wetbag. Simple. You can of course buy the ‘mucky’ box and bag if you prefer. Still simple, you just put the dirty wipes into the ‘mucky box’ and every other day take the mesh bag out and wash them. If you do not use reusable nappies this would be the better option as obviously you do not have a nappy bucket already.

So how am I getting on?

I absolutely LOVE them! Before switching I had been guilty of using up to 10 wipes per dirty nappy change. Well, using a cotton wipe I used one. Yes, one! It wipes so well it never ceases to amaze me! Both of mine have sensitive skin and now I don’t have to worry about any chemicals causing any irritation.

I know washing them wont be a problem as I am used to nappies already. So that is it, I am a cloth convert! No more stinky waste from our household. A friend said the next stage will be reusable loo roll…. we shall see!

Do you use reusable nappies? I definitely recommend trying wipes too!

I bought these myself but thought parents would appreciate an honest review.
