You Know You’re A Mum When…

Sometimes you find yourself doing things and wonder when your life became so weird. The other day I was emptying out my handbag and realised that 90% of the contents were baby related. Gone are the days of lipgloss, mirrors and a pretty purse- they are replaced with hand sanitiser, sudocrem and broken crayons from restaurants!

Cute baby boy relaxing while receiving a diaper change

It got me to thinking, what do others do now that are characteristic of being a mother? I posted the question to my Facebook page and lots of you had your own anecdotes. Some really had me laughing and nodding along in agreement!

You know you’re a mum when,,,

You sneak into the kitchen to eat chocolate/cake/crisps in secret so that you don’t have to share them– Leanne

I do this, I literally have my head in the cupboard, but usually get caught and then they tell me I’ll ruin my tea– Stevie- A Cornish Mum

I really laughed when I read Leanne’s comment as I had just that morning been scoffing bread and chorizo in secret as it was the last of the meat selection we had bought for our lunch at the weekend- I didn’t want to have to share!

You find a dummy in your coat pocket AND your handbag, but no baby with you.- Alex- Lamb and Bear

I never know where all of our dummies disappear to so when I do find one I am so pleased with myself!

You clean everything with baby wipes, including the dog, car and clothes! may just be me lol– Laura- Waffle Mama

Baby wipes are so handy aren’t they? I am always using them to wipe snot off my top (not my snot I may add!)

You feel the urge to send Stampylongnose hate mail….. for those of you who don’t have older children this is a minecraft youtuber who my children are obsessed with and who I have spent HOURS listening to at full volume…not by choice– Stevie- A Cornish Mum

I am very glad that I do not know who Stampylongnose is although there are quite a few Cbeebies characters I would gladly write to if I had the time!

You put your hand in your coat pocket to pull out your keys and instead pull out a toy bus – Leslie

I did this the other day, except it was a dog from a HappyLand set! I have no idea how or when it found its way into my pocket!

Going for a wee alone is the only ‘me time’ you get and still only happens once a month! – Hannah- Budding Smiles

I must be the only mum around that manages this! I am mean and shut the stairgate so they can’t follow me up! The benefits of not having a downstairs loo!

You rock the trolley cart while waiting to check out… and there is no child in it.- Sarah

Haha this is so funny, you do wonder what people think when they see mums doing this!

Have a food/snot/questionable stain on your top and you actually question if it is appropriate to leave the house like this?!– Lucy

Ah yes, I am familiar with this one. Generally I just throw a cardigan over the top to hide it!!

You see an ad for an animated movie and immediately research release dates and merchandise- Morgan

The other day I was in Card Factory and Little G saw a Frozen balloon. The cashier informed me that Frozen 2 is coming out this year and I was genuinely excited!

You can talk about poo, snot and all other gross things without even flinching haha!!– Amy- The Smallest of Things

It is funny how the bar is significantly lowered as soon as you give birth. You are happy to share all sorts when before you would be squeamish at the talk of sick. What’s worse, you don’t even flinch when dealing with it!!

You’re doing your make up in the dark because your little one is fast asleep in your bed and despite him waking you up in the night, you don’t want to wake him now!!– Lisa- Mumma Scribbles

You become some sort of ninja when you give birth- everything is done in silence and in stealth mode!

You automatically press “614” into the sky remote. The kid has been at school for the last 4 hours.- Steph- Mental Parentals

Haha!! So funny! I always find myself watching the Cbeebies blue screen waaaaay after they are in bed!

Before you have left the house for work at 8.30am you have fed and dressed 3 kids, made packed lunches, put a wash on, ordered a online food shop whilst drying hair, booked a flight and answered 3 emails (multi tasking)– Karen- Mini Travellers

It is amazing what we can achieve when against the clock isn’t it? Although I have to say I am not sure I am that efficient!

How about you? What do you find yourself doing now that you are a parent?

Loved this. The eating in secret is one I find I do. Oh and the bathroom although my daughter is getting better at not talking to me during bathroom times. My current mummy thing is finding scraps of paper everywhere she is obsessed with drawing.

Haha, this is brilliant, I have done so many of these, particularly the dodgy stain one! Also I always seem to have a spare pullup/nappy in my bag, even at work. WTAF?! x #thelist
