Inside: What to do on a day out in London with kids. Collaborative post.
Travelling with your kids in a city can be daunting, with so much to do and so little time – but we’ve put together a list of some great family-friendly things that you can get up to on your next adventure to London!
Getting there
One of the easiest ways to travel to London is by hopping on a train to London Kings Cross. On many lines, kids under 5 go free making it much more reasonably priced and in most cases, you can find ways to bag yourself discounted tickets if you can be flexible with your dates and timings.
Visit the theatre
London is renowned for its huge selection of musicals, many of which will be a hit with kids and parents alike! The city is full of family-friendly children’s theatres including The Lyceum and Apollo Victoria where you can watch and sing along to The Lion King, Wicked and Matilda – just to name a few!
If you do what to head to a theatre, be sure to check the age restrictions as many will not allow children under three to watch the show.
Head to a museum
A day out in London can be expensive but, luckily, many museums are free for everyone such as the British Museum and The Natural History museum. For museums that may be more interesting for the kids, the Science Museum is the most visited science and technology museum in Europe which has hands-on exhibits the little ones are sure to love.
On Sundays at The National Gallery, you will find kids studio and drawing workshops as well as family walk and talk tours and printed children’s trails all year round which will keep them entertained.
Visit an open-air Lido
If you are heading to the capital during the summer, visiting one of the city’s open-air Lidos is a great way to cool off and let your kids burn off some energy. Tooting Bec is one of the top choices for families due to having a separate pool for toddlers as well as plenty of space for picnics and sunbathing.
It is also Europe’s second largest open-air freshwater pool so there will be lots of room for you to all have a splash about.
Try a themed afternoon tea
In London you will find a multitude of places to grab a bite to eat, but why not try a themed afternoon tea? You are sure to find one that will suit your children’s tastes.
From a science-themed afternoon tea at The Ampersand Hotel inspired by the nearby Science Museum where you can dig to discover a dinosaur biscuit to a magical experience at Wands and Wizard Exploratorium where kids can cast spells to unlock ingredients and brew interactive teas – you’ll be spoilt for choice!
