Turn Your Garage Into A Games Room

Inside: Turn Your Garage Into A Games Room. Collaborative post.

An unused garage could make the perfect games room for relaxing and entertaining guests. Below are a few different ideas for converting your garage into a games room.

Add a games table

A games table could make a great centrepiece in your games room. Such a table could include:

  • A pool/snooker table: Ideal if you love to play snooker or pool.
  • A foosball table: For playing table football.
  • A regular large table: A great option for playing card games or board games if that is your preference.

Measure the space in order to choose the best size table. You can save money on pool tables and foosball tables by considering used options.

Install a bowling alley

If you love bowling, this could be a fun and unique option. Install an alley, buy some bowling balls, buy some pins and away you go! Of course if you want to set up a proper automated bowling alley that repositions the pins for you and returns your ball, you’re looking at over £20,000 for installation. Plus you’ll need a large garage if you want your alley to be a decent length.

Set up a large TV

A large TV could be great for watching programmes while you play. You could even use it for console gaming, or set up your own mini home-cinema-and-games-room in one. Wall mounted 4k TVs that are 85 inches or more will give you that cinematic experience (expect to pay more than £1k for such a TV), but you’ll need to position any seating far away enough so that you can take in the whole picture.

Make it comfy

It’s worth investing in some comfortable seating for your games room. Consider arranging some couches around the room. Alternatively, you could buy a couple gaming chairs or even some home theatre seats with cup holders. If you’ve currently got a hard floor in your garage, consider installing a garage carpet to further add some cosiness.

Provide some refreshments

It could be worth having some refreshments in your games rooms. A drinks fridge could be great for storing soft drinks or beers in. Alternatively, you could add a coffee machine if you like to drink coffee. For a kid’s games room, you could even consider a soft drinks dispenser. You could even set up a small home bar in the corner.

Get nostalgic with some retro touches

Buying an arcade machine or a pinball machine could be a fun touch. When it comes to arcade games, consider timeless classics that you and friends will want to return to like Pacman or Space Invaders. Another retro feature that you could consider could be a jukebox. This could make music selection a communal experience that’s more fun.

Install a new doorIf you’ve still got a traditional garage door, consider replacing this with something a little less garage-y. Swing saloon doors could be a fun option if you want to keep it a semi-outdoor space. Alternatively, you could replace it with a sliding glass door.

Or, if you’ve got another internal entrance to the garage, you could even block out the garage door with another wall or turn it into a large window to let some light in.
