We have had such a lovely week, with Mr F having the week off and it being G’s half term. It has been the first time we’ve spent any length of time as a five and I’ve loved it. We haven’t done too much other than local trips out to soft play or to town, but on Thursday we drove a couple of hours up to Norfolk to go to Bewilderwood. I’d heard about it a while back and when I saw they had a Halloween lantern parade throughout half term I figured there was no better time to go!
As you know, I work with Britax as one of their Mumbassadors. This month they have launched their new BABY-SAFE i-SIZE infant carrier, which conforms to the latest car seat regulations and provides comfort and safety for newborns. It also aims to simplify car seat safety and ensure parents feel confident that their baby is protected from the moment they bring them home.
As part of the #LifeIsAJourney campaign they have done some research into journeys taken by parents, revealing that they take an average of 48 minutes longer to leave the house than they did before they had children. They invited me to share a journey with my three, using a Fujifilm Instax camera, so I decided a 2 hour trip up to Norfolk would be perfect!
“Life is a journey that can start safely with Britax”
The majority of parents wait until their baby is five months old before taking their first long trip. But being our third baby, we aren’t so worried about making those longer journeys now and so driving a couple of hours to have a fun day at Bewilderwood didn’t phase us at all.
I always use my phone or my big camera to take my photos and being digital means I can take 50 photos of one shot, just to get the shot. With the Instax I get one chance! I was a bit nervous to go old school but I think I might be a little bit addicted now!
Here are a the photos from our day…
Would you believe he is already in 3-6 month clothing? He is only 7 weeks old!! I actually had to change him twice before we left – always the way isn’t it and is the most common reason why parents are late leaving the house!
All three of them have Britax carseats, with Wills being in an infant carrier on an ISOFIX base. It is so handy being able to click him in and out rather than having to faff around with seat belts. I never had ISOFIX with the girls and it was always a pain getting them strapped in!
We arrived after a relatively quick journey and thankfully all three slept the whole way! We always plan journeys after we’ve eaten and when we know they are due naps, that way we can avoid unnecessary stops along the way. With a baby it is a little trickier so 2 hours would probably be the maximum I would travel right now. He was a doll though and didn’t wake at all! Win!
If you’ve not heard of Bewilderwood, it is a brilliant adventure park for kids set in gorgeous Norfolk woodlands. They have made use of the local area, turning it into a magical place with zipwires and tree houses to explore. We spent the day up in the trees, crafting in a tent, having our faces painted and picnicking in the woods – it was brilliant!
We went later on in the day as we knew we’d be staying later for the parade, but actually we could have spent the whole day there. The great thing about it is the fact that once you are inside, everything is free (besides food). So even I got my face painted! 🙂
We weren’t sure what the lantern parade would involve but it was actually us that would be in the parade so we had to make our own lanterns. The girls love crafting so this was right up their street! Not that you can see them in this picture but I was quite pleased with how they turned out and I would go foraging for sticks and do it again.
Wills was the perfect baby all day and spent most of the time asleep in his pram. He is getting so long now I don’t think it will be long before he is too big for the carrycot!! Sad times indeed!!
The lantern parade was great fun and we even got to see some Twiggles and Boggles 🙂 but after a long day it was time to go home. We thought the girls would conk out as soon as they were strapped in but they were far too excited after such a fun day! Of course Wills fell asleep straight away, bless him.
With Britax you know you are putting your children in the very best hands and their new i-SIZE carrier is no different. It has improved side impact cushion technology and can last from birth all the way up to 15 months, with an adjustable headrest. The best thing for me is the fact that the base allows you to angle the seat to suit your car’s seats. Our old car had very deep seats and wasn’t suited to a base at all so being able to change the incline is great!
We had such a fun day and I absolutely loved using the Instax camera for the campaign. As you can see, the photos are anything but perfect but actually that is part of the charm don’t you think? They remind me of the photos my mum has of me as a child and they are just as cherished, if not more, than the perfect digital ones of today.
Apparently most Brits wait until their little ones are at least six months old before taking them on their first long journey, I can see why as the thought of them needing something along the way can be daunting. But I think as long as you plan your journey to coincide with naps, making sure they are fed and changed before you leave, then it can definitely be done and you can have a fab day!
When did you first take your little one on a long journey?
