The Green Co. Eco Laundry Detergent GreenSheets™ Review

In my quest for a more sustainable lifestyle I am always on the lookout for eco-friendly products to try out. I recently came across The Green Co. and their innovative laundry detergent sheets.

Intrigued by the idea of ditching bulky plastic detergent bottles and toxic chemicals found in other laundry products, I decided to give them a try.

Who are The Green Co.?

The Green Company was founded in 2018 by a group of 16 year old students who struggled to find alternatives to single use plastic products. This in itself is simply extraordinary in my opinion.

Despite lockdowns and their commitment to continuing education, the company has grown successfully since then and can now be found around the world.

Their mission is simple – they want to help you reduce plastic wastage through cleaner, greener alternatives.

First Impressions

From the moment I received my package, I was impressed. The Green Co.’s Eco Laundry Detergent GreenSheets™ come in a compact, recyclable cardboard envelope. The minimalist recyclable packaging not only looked great but also reflected the company’s commitment to sustainability. Plus, it was lightweight and easy to store—no more lugging around heavy detergent bottles!

The envelope is purely for the sample pack of course, with the larger packs of 64 or 128 sheets coming in a recyclable cardboard box instead.

What are they made from?

It is mind boggling that a simple sheet can replace and do the work of a normal scoop of detergent. Let’s look at what they are made from to see what makes them so effective.

– Organic Dodecyl Salt: This helps to loosen and remove dirt and grease from your clothes.

– Palm-Free Decyl Glucoside: A gentle, biodegradable product derived from natural sources like coconut. Decyl Glucoside is often used in laundry products for sensitive skin.

– Water: Used as a solvent to dissolve the other ingredients and aid distribution of these ingredients when the sheet dissolves.

– Coconut Oil Derivative (Cocoamidopropyl Betaine): A mild and biodegradable product derived from coconut oil. It contributes to the foaming properties of the detergent.

– Glycerol (Glycerine): This can help to keep the product from drying out and also has a slightly softening effect on fabrics.

– Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA): This is a water-soluble product that creates the film that encases the eco laundry detergent. It is biodegradable and doesn’t leave any harmful residues.

– Trisodium Citrate: A water softener that also adjusts the pH of the laundry detergent.

– Parfums (Fragrances): These are added to give our laundry sheets a pleasant scent. Our fragrance free option does not contain any parfums.

How do the laundry sheets work?

As soon as water enters the machine, the sheets will begin to return to a liquid state. This liquid then moves around the drum as any other detergent would, to give your clothes a full clean.

The sheets work in hot or cold water too, so you don’t have to worry about using extra energy heating the water if you don’t want to.

What buying options are there?

The laundry detergent sheets come in 3 different fragrance options: fragrance free, Lavender, or Fresh Linen.

The conditioner sheets are available in Lavender or Fresh Linen.

Both the detergent and the conditioner are then available in either 64 or 128 load packs. With the option to order a trial pack of 4 loads too.

What I like about The Green Co. is they do not push for a subscription as it isn’t always accessible for everyone. You can buy as and when suits you if that is your preference, but if you would like to subscribe then they offer a 16% discount on the purchase price.

Ease of Use

Using the laundry sheets was incredibly simple. The pre-measured sheets dissolve easily in water, whether you’re using a hot or cold water wash. I just popped one into the drum with my load of laundry, and that was it—no mess, no measuring, no spills. The same went for the fabric conditioner sheets, which worked just as seamlessly.

We live in a hard water area so as instructed, I used 2 sheets per load. They also recommend using 2 sheets for a larger loads or if you have some tough stains to remove. Of course, this will mean you get through more sheets and each load will cost a little more, but with each load starting at 19p per wash, that doesn’t seem so bad.

And when you factor in the plastic-free packaging and other eco-friendly benefits, there is no question as to their value.

Cleaning Power & Freshness

I wasn’t entirely sure how a lightweight sheet could effectively clean my clothes, but I was pleasantly surprised. The detergent sheets did an excellent job of lifting stains and odours, leaving my laundry fresh and clean.

The Eco Fabric Conditioner GreenSheets™ added a subtle fragrance and made my clothes feel soft without that heavy, artificial residue that some liquid conditioners leave behind. Again, these sheets just get popped into the drum along with the main detergent sheets. Simple.

Eco-Friendly Benefits

One of the biggest advantages of Eco Laundry Detergent GreenSheets™ is their environmental impact—or rather, the lack of it. Unlike traditional detergents that come in plastic bottles and contain harsh chemicals, these sheets are biodegradable, plastic-free, and made from natural ingredients.

Plus, their lightweight nature means a lower carbon footprint in shipping compared to liquid detergents.

Other benefits include:

  • Packaged in a biodegradable bag made from cornstarch – no plastic waste
  • 1/10th weight of traditional liquid detergent – compact size saves space in transport as well as at home
  • Certified vegan and GMO free
  • Cruelty free – no animal testing at any stage of the supply chain

Benefits for our skin

Their dissolvable sheets are hypoallergenic approved and this is something I needed to confirm before trying them on my children’s sensitive skin.

So many powder detergents and liquid detergent promise to be kind to skin but have still caused allergic reactions in our family over the years. Thankfully, I am very happy to report that we had no reactions and can enjoy clean clothes without fear of irritation.

Switching to a natural laundry detergent from The Green Co. has been a game-changer for my household. They offer a practical, mess-free, and sustainable alternative to traditional detergents and fabric softener without compromising on effectiveness.

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly way forward for your laundry routine, I highly recommend giving The Green Co. GreenSheets™ a try.
