Styling Our Nursery With Mamas & Papas

We never had a proper nursery for the girls, mainly because we were planning to move soon after Little G was born (therefore no point in making a special room) and LJ just seemed to get shoved into the box room in a panic. I think I always felt there was no point in having a room decorated as a nursery with the baby stage passing so quickly, so we just kept their rooms plain.

This time has been different, this time I am not looking to rush through any stage. I know from experience that the baby stage does in fact pass by too quickly and that you need to make the most of every second. With LJ successfully moved into a shared room with G, we were free to decorate her room as we pleased. She’d had it very girly indeed so it was a chance to start over, to make it into a nursery for a little boy.

Mamas & Papas invited me to come along to one of their personal shopping service experiences. Now you’d think third time around I wouldn’t need any help but like I say, having never decorated a nursery before I needed all the help I could get!

I was greeted by staff and shown upstairs to the consultation area, where I was then greeted by the lovely Lily and handed a gift box full of gorgeous bits and bobs, a newborn starter kit really with vests, babygrow, a blanket and a little rattle.

There are 4 different consultations to choose from: The Full Works– for people who need a full overview, On The Move – talking you through different pushchair options, The Safe Seat– to help you find the best car seat for you and finally Style Your Nursery – that is the one I went for.

We discussed what exactly it was I needed, did I need furniture or just some inspiration for accessories. Thankfully, although we weren’t planning a third, we still had all of those bigger items left over from the girls. LJ had been using the bed part of her cot bed and so it was just a case of putting the sides back on again. So what we really needed this time was some inspiration on a theme and some extra accessories to give it that special nursery feel.

For me, there is nothing better than being able to see the look of a room, a try before you by I guess. The store had all of their collections set up as rooms, which meant I could truly visualise what I wanted our nursery to look like. I wanted a calm feel, nothing too bold or bright, so those with neutrals and muted colours were the collections I was drawn to.

Seeings as we had all of the big furniture already, it was a case of finding those finishing touches. One thing I really loved was this mobile for the cot. It was the first thing I spotted and led me towards the theme I have settled on really. I’m not sure how to describe it other than to say there are stars and clouds and a feeling of tranquility throughout the room.

I think this is my favourite thing right here, I wish I’d bought one on the day but I will definitely be ordering one as it is simply beautiful! Like a hot air balloon floating through the clouds and stars – love it!

I didn’t leave empty handed though, this gorgeous artwork slipped into my basket. Isn’t it lovely? I am going to be doing a nursery tour on my YouTube channel in the next week or so and I’ll show you why I love it so much.

I also picked up some wall stickers (stars of course) and the most gorgeous play mat. Although we had kept the larger items of furniture, those smaller accessories like bouncers and mats were long gone. I managed to pick up a swing the other week but couldn’t find a playmat that I liked. As soon as I saw the My First Playmat I fell in love. It won’t be coming out of its packet until he is here but I cannot wait to see it in action.

I left the store feeling as though I knew exactly what I wanted the nursery to look like and I am pleased as punch with the accessories I picked out. Being able to see everything set up really helped me to plan it all out in my head and we have since finished the room – minus that gorgeous lampshade of course!

Being able to talk everything through and have live demos of various bits and bobs is so useful – and of course everything in Mamas & Papas is absolutely gorgeous isn’t it?
