After 3 years of having a child in our house we have amassed more clutter than we know what to do with. My mum often jokes that we could open up a toy shop but actually she isn’t far off! We currently have toys for a 1 year old, a 2 year old a 3 year old and for much older. I cannot get rid of the baby toys as Baby L is still growing into half of them.
I have started 2015 with the view to de-clutter our house and rid ourselves of unnecessary items- this included toys. I also want to make sure everything has a home, this is key to ensuring the girls know how to tidy up correctly. If something hasn’t got a place then how can they possibly tidy it away? I am a bit obsessed by storage, Mr F mocks me for it as I am constantly on the look out for yet another storage solution. I can’t help it though, I love the feeling you get when you find the perfect place to keep something!
There are two main sources of mess in our house (no no, not the girls) it is the conservatory and Little G’s room. They both house the majority of the toys around here and so I have been focusing on finding storage that will keep the rooms neat and tidy.
We keep all of the little bits and bobs in G’s room, out of the reach of her sister who would probably eat it all. So there are Barbie accessories, dolls house furniture, jewels for threading, pens and pencils- the list goes on. All fiddly bits that need a place to live. This is where plastic box shop have come in! They sell so many different sized boxes and baskets, you want it- they have it!
I chose the Kids Bedroom Blitz storage pack as it contained everything I needed to sort her room out once and for all! The kit contains:
- 1 x Set of 3 large tidy baskets
- 1 x Set of 5 medium tidy baskets
- 4 x 490ml Wham boxes
- 4 x 1.5lt Wham boxes
- 1 x 8lt A4 Wham box
- 1 x 3 drawer handi unit
- 1 x 300ml bon bon box
- 1 x 38cm 5 compartment organiser box
- 2 x 50lt archive/large plastic storage boxes
We had so much fun finding a home for everything and getting rid of anything that didn’t belong anywhere. Her room as never looked so tidy!!
The handiest thing we found were these baskets, she has so many bits and bobs for her hair and 5 pairs of sunglasses (!!!!) that had previously been thrown into one big pile on the window sill. They all now sit neatly in a row, with her hair bands and clips sitting inside the handy boxes.
This 3 drawer unit is great for keeping all of her dolls house furniture and Barbie accessories safely out of harms way! She is able to get them out when she wants to play and knows exactly where they belong when it is time to tidy away again.
One of the biggest successes was tidying her wardrobe. The big archive boxes are great for storing all of the books and games I have waiting for her to have when she is older. They had just been stacked in a pile but took up the whole of the bottom of the wardrobe and her suitcase was just thrown on top of the wardrobe. Now there is room inside for her luggage and the box keeps everything neatly stored.
The set has so many different sized boxes and baskets that we have kept some aside for Baby L’s room. Her room is still very much a work in progress and isn’t much different to the storage room it used to be before she was born. It is next on the list and we will be make sure everything has a place from the very beginning!
Do you need more storage?
