We all have parts of our body that we don’t like don’t we? As women we tend to focus on our weight and go on diet after diet to change the way we look. Is a realistic goal though, if you eat healthily and exercise regularly you will be able to lose the weight.
But what about aspects of your body that aren’t as easy to change? Should we accept them as part of the way we look?
As a teenager I wore a brace, one of those ugly metal clip in ones. I had to wear it for a couple of years but was useless and never remembered to keep it in. As a result my teeth did not improve and the orthodontist refused further treatment. I didn’t think anything of it until years later when I saw a photo of myself at my wedding.
It isn’t terribly clear when zoomed in but all I could focus on was my awful teeth. From that point on I could not stop thinking about how much they stuck out and how wonky they were. I was miserable and from that point on I would hold my hand over my mouth when I smiled.
I could have learned to live with them, accepted that was the way they were meant to be, but why stay miserable when you can do something about it? My dentist recommended Invisalign Surrey to me and I knew immediately that it was for me. I couldn’t bear the thought of having ‘metal mouth’ and so the fact that the aligners are practically invisible was a real selling point!
I had moulds taken for both upper and lowers teeth and they were sent off to be analysed. After a few weeks wait the full set of aligners arrived. They had been made specifically by the dentist city of London for me and they had worked out that the whole process would take 50 weeks from beginning to end. I would have to go to have a new aligner put into place every two weeks, with each aligner gradually moving the teeth into their new position.
I actually noticed a difference after a couple of months, which was so satisfying to see! My teeth were straighter and they didn’t stick out as much. Over the next few months they improved more and more and by the last month they were so beautifully straight- I finally had the confidence to smile with my mouth open.
Do you smile with confidence?

I have awful teeth, one that sticks out more then any others, my mum had the same and ended up with a bridge tooth, but my dentist won't do it, says the only way is a brace and its so expensive.

Oh Kate that is the one biggest thing I don't like about myself my teeth, I was allergic to my brace as a child so maybe this is an option as I am so self conscious x

I actually do - it is the one thing I can do with confidence. It still doesn't make me want to appear in photos though!
I think that wedding photo is beautiful - you look so happy xx
