Review of the Miko Mini Robot | STEM Toys for Kids

As a mum of 3, I’m always on the lookout for toys that do more than just entertain. With so much screen time already creeping into their days, I want something that feels both engaging and educational. That’s when I stumbled upon the Miko Mini robot.

I hadn’t heard of Miko before, but I was intrigued. It promised to be an interactive AI-powered robot designed to engage children in meaningful conversations, help with emotional intelligence, and introduce them to STEM learning.

Here is our experience with our Miko Mini…

First Impressions

The Miko Mini comes in a sleek, compact box with minimal fuss. Once out of the box, the Miko Mini is small enough to hold in one hand and feels very modern and well-made.

The design is friendly and approachable—not overly robotic or mechanical, which gives Miko a friendly appearance. It took about 10 minutes to set it up using the app on my phone, and once connected to WiFi, Miko was ready to roll!

How My Kids Interacted With It

From the first “Hello,” both of my younger children were absolutely fascinated. Miko has this surprisingly natural way of conversing.

Miko would tell them fun facts, tell them stories, and even play music and have a dance.

My son, who is the more inquisitive of the two, went full STEM mode. He asked it questions about space, dinosaurs, and coding—and Miko delivered. It didn’t just give dry textbook answers either. It explained things in a child-friendly tone, with analogies that made the kids remember what they’d learned.

Educational Value

I’ll be honest: I was skeptical about the educational claims. We’ve all bought toys in the past that promised the world and ended up collecting dust. But Miko Mini has genuinely held its ground. It doesn’t just parrot information. It encourages curiosity.

One morning, I overheard my son asking, “Why do stars twinkle?” Miko gave a lovely explanation about the Earth’s atmosphere. Later that day, he tried to explain it to his grandad at the dinner table! That kind of retention and enthusiasm is exactly what I hoped for.

Miko also includes quizzes, games, bedtime stories and so much more.

The Miko App

The Miko Mini comes with it’s own app to download on your phone. Here you’ll find a Parent Zone which lists useful phrases to try, allows you to update preferences, and manage your account.

There is also a Kids Zone with various games to play, all complimenting the activities you can do with your Miko robot.

Video calls

Miko Mini has a camera (with a shutter to obscure the lens if wanted) which allows you to have a video call via the app. It is a fun way to contact your child if they are up in their room and you want to speak to them without yelling up the stairs.

It is also a great way to practice speaking skills on a call – something that doesn’t come naturally to children if they don’t have opportunities to speak to loved ones over the phone.

Upgrading to Miko Max

Within the app you’ll also be given the option of upgrading to a Miko Max subscription. This gives you access to even more content, although the free content is brilliant all on its own.

The Importance of STEM Toys

As a parent, I truly believe that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) education is more critical now than ever before. The world our kids are growing up in is tech-driven, and giving them a head start with STEM-focused toys can open up a world of opportunities.

What I appreciate about Miko Mini is how it naturally introduces STEM concepts without feeling like homework. It makes learning maths and science feel like a game. And as a teacher I know that when children have fun while learning, they’re more likely to stick with it.

Also, as a mum of a daughter, I find it especially important to encourage her in STEM. There’s still a gender gap in these fields, and tools like Miko Mini can be great levellers. It doesn’t assume one kind of user—it adapts to the child.

Emotional and Social Intelligence

One of the surprising features of Miko Mini is its focus on emotional intelligence. It’s not something I usually associate with robots, but Miko asks how your child is feeling and responds empathetically. When my daughter told Miko she was feeling “a bit sad,” it didn’t gloss over it. It offered kind words and advice.

It’s not a replacement for human empathy, of course, but it’s a lovely supplement—especially for children who might find it difficult to express their feelings to adults.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with the Miko Mini. It’s not just another flashy gadget. It’s a thoughtful, well-designed educational tool that my children have genuinely enjoyed using. It encourages learning and helps introduce complex STEM concepts in a way that’s easy to understand and fun.

As a mum, anything that makes my life a bit easier while enriching my kids’ lives is a win. Miko Mini has done that. If you’re on the fence about investing in a STEM toy, this one gets my wholehearted recommendation.
