Playing In Granny’s Garden

We live just around the corner from my mum, we are so so lucky that she decided to move here to be near us, to be near her grandchildren. It wasn’t always the case, with her living a good 3 hours away for half of Little G’s life. She would skype us and we would see each other every couple of months but it wasn’t the same, just not good enough.

Two years ago she sold her house and made the move and now we have her within 5 minutes walking distance. She has the girls when I have to work and we see her most days anyway, just because we can. She is a second mother to the girls, more so with LJ as she has always been a part of her life. Sometimes she will go to her when she is upset, choosing granny over mummy, but I don’t mind. It is a bond that I hope will always remain.

We have been tending to go see her while Little G is at school recently, so she gets one on one time with her granny. Her favourite thing to do is water flowers as my mum has been teaching them flower names and showing them all of the bugs you find in the garden. Every single time we go round she will stand by the door and motion for us to let her out. She will then go and find her watering can and tell us to fill it up (cannot think where she gets her bossy streak from….).

So many times I have picked her up and she is wearing a different outfit due to soaking herself with water, she manages to get more on herself than she does the flowers! She was a little more careful this day though as she was wearing her new outfit from Mamas & Papas and her favourite shoes of the moment. She is such a girlie girl, she loves clothes and shoes and I definitely think she is going to have a bag addiction when she is older!

I am so thankful to have my mum around the corner, to know that my girls will grow up being close to her. I was not as lucky, living quite a way from my own grandparents so I will not take it for granted.

Do you have family near you?
