Perfect Greek islands for your next active family holiday

Family holidays are often the highlight of the year for both young and old family members, so it is important to book the right destination. You may find that members of your group want to be active so booking an adventure holiday will help to keep everyone entertained.

Active holidays could include several different activities, so you will find something for everyone. Greece has many different islands that could fit the bill. Here are three islands for you to consider.

Active Family Holiday Ideas

Rhodes

Rhodes is a stunning island with natural beauty making a tempting backdrop to the cosmopolitan and medieval aspects of the buildings. With an unsettled history, this island is home to nods to the past such as the Acropolis of Lindos and the Thari Monastery.

Although Rhodes beaches are incredibly beautiful, nothing says a fun-filled family activity holiday quite like a visit to a water park. Waterpark Faliraki is a must-visit destination for those travelling with kids. With areas designed for little ones and extreme slides for older adrenaline seekers, this park is perfect for a day splashing in the sunshine.

Naxos

Naxos is perhaps one of the lesser-known islands, but it rivals the bigger names in terms of beauty. Accessible by plane or ferry from Athens, Naxos is also close to Santorini and Mykonos, so you can always plan a visit without needing to stay there.

One of the Cyclades Islands, Naxos is home to many ancient sites. The most impressive feature of the island, though, is its imposing landscape of mountains surrounded by lush green valleys. As you explore the landscape you will stumble across rural villages that look like something from a postcard.

Adventurers should flock to Naxos for its incredible walking trails as well as water activities such as windsurfing. For a nice easy walk, a loop from the village of Melanes could be for you. This hike involves 3.8 miles of breathtaking scenery whilst walking along ancient marble pathways and unmade dirt tracks.

Milos

A volcanic origin means that Milos has a coastline that is home to more than 40 exotic beaches, some of which look like they have been plucked from a fantasy novel.

If you want to experience scenery that feels otherworldly then be sure to head to Sarakiniko beach. The combination of white rocks and sand twinned with turquoise blue waters is a sight to behold. As it is an area of unspoiled beauty, there are no facilities so remember to pack everything you need. For adrenaline lovers, Sarakiniko offers some high spots above the sea that are perfect for jumping and diving off. Due to the layering of the rocks, there are also some incredible caves to explore – just remember to take a torch for the darker corners!
