As a teacher I would always plan my weeks around a theme, the children are more engaged and learn more when they are presented with ideas around a topic they love. Since being a stay at home mum I have not been great at thinking of activities to do with my girls. Therefore I have decided to based each week around a theme and hopefully have a lot of fun! Each Monday I will share the activities we have done and let you know what the following week’s theme will be. Hopefully it will give you some ideas too!
We went to see Buckingham Palace last weekend and it inspired a week filled with princes and princesses. Little G is a massive fan of fairytales so it was an easy topic to plan.
The activities
CRAFT – Paper Plate Crowns These are so quick and easy to make! We have a stash of paper plates in the house as they are a crafting essential! Simply fold and cut and voila! Little G enjoyed decorating her crown and Little L enjoyed destroying them! Ha!

Loo Roll Cuffs Another easy make! I cut the loo roll in half so each one made 2 cuffs- one for each arm. Little G decided to paint hers purple and empty half all of the glitter everywhere. We then stuck pom poms in a line to finish it off!
BAKING I love any excuse to make cakes so we decided to make some pretty cupcakes for our picnic. Unfortunately the first batch went horribly wrong as I used plain flour instead of self raising!! Whoops! The second batch were amazing though and we had fun decorating them with pretty things fit for a princess!

SAND CASTLES Out in the garden again this week and no princess week would be complete without a castle or two! We enjoyed making them although the more detailed castle just would not work for us! They had fun smashing them down each time- always the best part!
SHADOW PUPPETS This was probably my favourite activity of the week. We found the shadow puppet templates on Twinkl and used them to tell each other stories every night at bedtime. Little G especially loved The Princess and the Pea as she hadn’t heard it before. I particularly enjoyed her 10 minute rambling rendition of Snow White….. 🙂
DRESSING UP
Of course we had to do a bit of dressing up! We have enough princess outfits to set up a shop!!
HAMA BEADS I really love Hama beads, it is something we have to do when Little L is asleep for obvious reasons but means we get to spend time just the two of us. It does normally turn into a ‘mummy makes’ though as she loses patience! This was my effort at a Little G/ Elsa
READING We haven’t read many books this week, instead we have been telling stories with the shadow puppets and also listening to them in her book corner. She has a cd player and adores sitting snuggled in her cushions listening to all the old classics, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty etc.. It has been a fun week and our inspiration for next week was a plastic hook I picked up for 20p on Saturday. Next week will be pirates!!

Wow Katy, you can tell you're a teacher! Love the idea of following a theme. My 2 are going to love the paper plate crowns, cuffs and shadow puppets. And very easy to do, which is good for me! Putting paper plates in my shop now. Thank you. #MiniCreations. Over from www.cookwithtoddlers.com/community
