I am so lucky to have my mum live just around the corner but sometimes I take her for granted. She hasn’t had the best year with one thing or another so when Expedia asked me if I would like to take part in their world on a plate challenge, I thought it would be the perfect excuse to treat my mum to a nice meal!
We were on holiday last week and so my mum took care of the house, watering our strawberry plants and making sure everything was ok while we were away. It seemed like an age since we saw her so it was really good to spend the evening together.
The lovely Clio from The Greek Deli delivered everything that we needed to host a Greek themed evening and so I set about searching to see what traditional meals I could cook up with the fantastic ingredients. All of the dishes were really easy to cook which was perfect- nobody wants to be slaving over a meal all day!
The Starter
I used the sun-dried tomatoes and feta along with some salad and a baguette to make the starter- it was delicious! I drizzled over some olive oil and everyone loved it!

My mum and I cracked open a bottle of white wine, Moi, Je M’en Fous, one of the nicest I have ever had actually. It said it was a dry white but it was so smooth it went down like a soft drink- could have quite easily had the whole bottle to myself!
The Main
The main was another success, consisting of chicken, pasta and a delicious salad. I used roasted peppers, olives, baby salad and spinach. I sprinkled on some feta and it was complete!

Little L discovered a love of olives too! She ate all of her olives first before moving on to the rest of her meal.
The dessert

I have never been a massive fan of honey so when I found it in the box I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. I found a great recipe for Greek Honey Cake so thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did as it turns out that Greek Thyme Honey is amazing- I could have eaten the pot to myself! The cake was so moist, I will be sharing the recipe next week!
To round off the meal we opened up the Greek favourite- Ouzo! My mum’s face was an absolute picture when she tried it for the first time! Mr F and I used to have it all the time at university and often frequented our local Greek Taverna- it brought back great memories!
The whole evening was such a laugh and we have all discovered a love of Greek food- I will definitely be cooking the meals again!
After such a successful Greek meal, I’m always on the lookout for more easy and tasty meal plans to keep dinner exciting without the fuss of exhaustive prep. Discovering dishes from around the world can be simple and enjoyable with the right recipes.
Have you tried Greek food?
We were sent everything we needed for a Greek eveing, all thoughts and words are my own.
