As part of the blogging book tour to launch A Year of Nature Walks and Games, we’re sharing this fab walking game.

Twenty questions walking game

Whether you’re on the school run, popping out to the shops, or enjoying a nature walk, having a good game up your sleeve can be very handy when it comes to keeping little ones happy.

You can play this game anywhere, but it works really well on a walk if the kids are getting a bit bored.

  • One person is ‘it’, and everyone else asks questions.
  • The person who is ’it’ thinks of a thing. This can be a living thing, an object, or a place.  They don’t tell anyone what they have chosen, but they must say which category the thing belongs to.
  • Everyone else takes it in turns to ask a question.  The aim is to guess what the thing is in twenty questions or less. So for example, if the thing is an object, you could ask “Do we have one in our house?”. If it’s a living thing, you could ask “Do we have them in this country?”, and if it’s a place, you could ask “Have we been there?” etc.
  • The person who is ‘it’ can only answer questions with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
  • If a player guesses correctly in twenty questions or less, they become ‘it’ for the next round.
  • If nobody has guessed correctly after twenty questions have been asked, the thing is revealed and players choose who is ‘it’ for the next round.
  • If everyone is struggling to guess correctly, you can simplify the categories. For example, players can only choose animals.
