Natural artist!

I believe that everything can be turned into a learning experience. This weekend my Mum decided to do a bit of light pruning (hacking a tree to bits!) and ended up with half the tree on her lawn.
It was such a lovely sunny day I wanted to be out in the garden and so decided to take some paints and make the most of a leafy situation.

At first Little G was a bit hesitant picking the leaves- I have always told her not to pick leaves or flowers from plants, to respect nature. Once I explained that the tree was going to go to be recycled anyway she merrily set off to choose some good leaves.

We had red, yellow, blue and green paint with us and so she set about painting each leaf and pressing it onto the paper. With each leaf she informed me that she was painting the ‘not shiny’ side like I had shown her.

Before long she was putting the blue brush in the yellow pot and the yellow brush in the red pot (my ocd tendancies had to refrain from correcting her!)  and had made orange! She was so pleased with herself and so I encouraged her to mix up blue and red to see what colour she could make. She liked the idea of mixing so decided to mix all of the colours together and she was very excited to discover it made brown ‘like Autumn Mummy!’

We decided to use the leaves to make a frame for the picture as she didn’t want to throw them in the bin. It now has pride of place on our fridge!
